"The Journal of John Woolman" is a spiritual autobiography of a man who was the characteristic literary expression of Quakerism in its first two centuries. Woolman's Journal was first published in 1774, shortly after his death. He both espoused and lived the testimonies of equality, simplicity, and peace. He was said to be the quietest radical in history. He was a major force in bringing the Society of Friends to the Truth that slavery is wrong. While Talyor by profession, he traveled in ministry under several concerns asking Friends to examine their dealings to see if they contribute to the ills of the world.

Daughters of Light" examines Quaker women preaching and prophesying in colonial America and abroad from 1700 to 1775. More than a thousand Quaker women ministers were active in America before the revolutionary war. This was an era when Quakers formed the third-largest religious denomination in the colonies. Rebbeca Larson gives a silhouette to the challenges they faced along with the support they received from families and their community. These women traveled great distances and still had to negotiate marriage, childbearing, and leaving small children at home. Rebbeca Larson gives voice to these forgotten women that as spiritual leaders balanced mysticism with pragmatism.
