Project funded by the European Union
The programmes being developed are part of a national export strategy by the Government of Sri Lanka to raise the profile and the quality standards for the wellness tourism sector (spa’s, Ayurveda clinics, wellness centres, meditation retreats, resorts etc) in order to provide skilled and qualified labour in the sector and support the country’s economic development through attracting tourists who are seeking a vacation with a wellness component.
The project will benefit women, the unemployed and marginalised groups as well as the general public, employees in the sector and new graduates from high schools and colleges. The project is funded by the European Union
The Wellness Tourism Curriculum has been developed with the input of industry practitioners and educators. The focus of the curriculum is not just on the knowledge learned and subject content, but also on the skills, attitudes, and behaviours needed to effectively apply knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the wellness tourism sector.
This competency-based approach is an important factor of the success of learners in transferring their knowledge into the real-working environment. As such the courses have been developed as part of a competency-based curriculum which is learner-centred and outcome-driven with reference to occupational standards developed in Sri Lanka, the UK, Australia and India.
The curriculum has been developed to be flexible and adaptive to the changing needs of learners, and to address the changing needs of the international and Sri Lankan wellness tourism sector.
