The project is part of the EU Response to support the Revitalization of the Tourism Industry in Sri Lanka and the Maldives, and is funded under the Development Cooperation Instrument, with the key objective of trade development, specifically, tourism.
The project supports the development and dissemination of resources to build capacity of wellness resorts, Ayurveda wellness centres and Sri Lankan spa operators through the training of facility managers, Ayurveda/spa therapists, centre staff and trainers.
The aim is to build the capacity of the workforce, to meet the expected demand from international tourists for health and wellness services, and products, in order to raise the quality of management and treatments.
The project aimed to provide a comprehensive training curriculum covering wellness therapies, and the management of spa and wellness operations. A selected group of trainers was trained on how to implement a new curriculum using a hybrid or blended learning approach.
The training curriculum should maximise the existing skills within the wellness community, and training institutions, as well as learning technologies that will enhance the quality of learning.
This should lead to sustainable and ongoing capacity development opportunities for Sri Lankans within the wellness sector.
