Personal Statement
I am an Associate Professor of Teaching of Mathematics at UC Riverside, working at the intersection of mathematical physics, analysis, and probability. I earned my PhD at UCLA under the supervision of Professor V. S. Varadarajan and held positions at UCLA, NTNU, and USC before joining UCR.
My group studies how order arises from randomness, how finite pieces compose into complex systems, how spacetime symmetries shape diffusion and quantum phenomena, and how discrete or finite systems reflect the properties of and converge to continuum limits. See my research page to learn more about my group's work. Here is some information if you would like to be a part of my research group. My research in mathematics education has focused on principle-based instruction, spatial reasoning, and the effect of and barriers to collaboration in learning environments.
A native of Southern California—and graduate of LAUSD and the UC system—I am committed to giving back to the state that gave me my educational opportunities. I am passionate about supporting educators at all levels who seek to enhance their mathematics education and/or engage in research. There are many interesting areas of research for students and educators to explore that are both accessible and open-ended.
Please contact me if you would like to collaborate on research, outreach, or curriculum design. For more detailed information on outreach, please visit: The VITAL Mathematics Outreach Program. To learn more about my perspective on teaching, here is an opinion piece that I recently wrote for the California Learning Lab: Opinion Piece.
