Who You Need On Your Team:
You need a really good therapist who specializes in eating disorders. *
You need a really good dietician who specializes in eating disorders. *
You need an obgyn (for women) who can monitor bone density and prescribe birth control until period returns.
You need a doctor (family practitioner, pediatrician, etc) who knows about eating disorders who can prescribe meds, monitor vitals, check bloodwork, schedule bone density tests, EKGs to check the heart, etc.
It can be beneficial to also work with a family therapist because sometimes it is the family dynamic that causes or exacerbates the eating disorder.
It is great if all these people can work together and communicate. If not, the parents become the go-between and need to coordinate everything.
*It is VERY important that these people specialize in eating disorders! Recovery can be regressive and months of hard work can be undone if they are uneducated about eating disorders (trust me).
