Wellington's Peninsular War Mod Files
Goals of the Mod:
------------------------
1) Update the Leader images to be almost 100% fully colorized. I also changed the look and feel of the leaders to utilize the same outlines as the rest of the Napoleonic games in the series. In other words, oval shaped leader images surrounded by the "wood picture frame" graphics. The base game has a rectangular look incosistent with the other Napoleonic titles. This is just a personal preference thing for me. I've also added about 40 additional leader images and made corresponding OOB updates, updating leaders who were given generic artwork in the base game. This adds a little more variety and flavor to the game.
2) I've added Regimental / Battalion flags where possible.
French side: The OOB's representing campaigns and engagements from the 1808-1811 timeframe should have the appropriate flag(s) used at the time. The OOB's representing campaigns from the 1812-1814 range have been updated to point to images with the correct flags from that later war time period.
British side: For the most part, this should be historically accurate for Line Infantry and Cavalry units. I may have taken a little artistic license with some British Hussar units, giving a generic red cavalry flag.
Portuguese side : I was able to find references for the line infantry flags, but not for most Cavalry units. As a result I left the Cavalry blank. On the line infantry I went w/ a King's color for 1st Battalions and with the appropriate colored flag for 2nd Battalions.
Spanish side: This would have been a monster undertaking to get this perfect for all infantry and cavalry units, and there were too many where I was unable to find a reference on the web. Therefore on most of the infantry I went with the base white flag w/ red lines running diagonal. The cavalry I left blank for the most part.
3) Unit Images:
On the French side, I updated a small portion of Unit Artwork from images that I liked from other games. This helped get a few of the French Hussar regiments with historically correct colors.
In addition to creating the images w/ 1812 French Flags, I also updated some of the infantry images, borrowing artwork from the "Napoleon's Russian Campaign" title. I think this better represents the uniform changes of that 1812-1814 period.
On the British side, the base game already covers changes to some of the British cavalry uniforms around 1813.
4) This follows a VERY similar design pattern to "EZJax" mods available on Napoleonic Games Club site.
The French and British art on the top right of a unit box comes straight from there.
On the Portuguese and Spanish side I tried to create a coat of arms for that space. Admittedly, this could use some work, and I would welcome some help on this.
What this Includes:
------------------
1) Updated the Unit images file compared to the base install. This adds Regimental/Battalion flags within the artwork. OOBs are updated to make this work with the new images on the Units File
2) Updated Leader image file. In some cases, the OOB mapping needed to change in order to upgrade certain leaders from generic images to accurate images. I also utilized the oval shape used in the other Napoleonic Titles.
3) Included some French, British, Portuguese, and Spanish icons in the UnitBox file.
4) Updated the Leader Box and Anon files to be consistent w/ the other Napoleonic titles in the series.
What this Mod doesn't include
------------------------------
1) I've tried very hard to not change any of the unit or leader quality ratings, or any of the size of the units from the latest WDS version.
