WayFinders consists of a group of people residing in the greater Grand Coulee area.
We are a group of volunteers who uplift our communities by building on the promises and values granted and defined by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights of the United States of America.
We find ways to support our communities, the people, and their needs.
Above you see a public domain image of a 1996 US Postal Service stamp recognizing the 175th anniversary of The Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights (1791) 175th anniversary was celebrated on July 1, 1966 with a 5-cent stamp. The shield-shaped design shows two hands in conflict. The right gauntleted fist suggest the “knock on the door at night” of tyranny. The left held up in opposition symbolizes the guarantees of individual freedoms in the Bill of Rights.
Today in the United States we have “the ‘knock on the door at night’ of tyranny “ as armed government agents disregard the Bill of Rights with people in the United States, citizens or not.
Today in the United States we have the citizens in opposition in order to demand the guarantees of individual freedoms in the Bill of Rights.
On February 5, 2025, Sheri joined the 50501 movement to do just that — demand our rights, to expect people to be treated with dignity as neighbors, and to stop the steal of our policies, programs, and data.
All over the country, people walked. In Washington, people walked:
“On February 5, around 1500 protesters gathered in Washington‘s capital in Olympia. Protesters held signs such as “Immigrants make America great”, “Reject Project 2025” and also held U.S. flags. They also chanted phases such as “USA we are” and “trans rights are our rights”. The Washington 50501 protest coincided with a protest for the OneAmerica Immigrant and Refugee Rally, which was at the steps of the nearby legislative building.”
In Grand Coulee, one person walked. Why? The tyranny began. The movement called. I walked.
The signs Sheri carried on February 5th, 2025.
As neighbors gathered and discussed over the weeks that followed, we formed a loose coalition of neighbros from five communities along Highway 155: Nespelem, Elmer City, Coulee Dam, Grand Coulee, and Electric City. As we gathered in potlucks and meetings, one member, Karen, explained a story about her mother. At one point in the story, Karen explained to her mother how she had been frustrated with a problem; her mother calmly reminded and encouraged her to "find a way." And that wonderful moment in Karen's life inspired the name of our group: WayFinders.
We began to prepare for the hard times ahead as the current administration denied our rights and our programs that help people build better lives -- for everyone.
A year later, almost thirty-five citizens from Electric City to Nespelem join in a walk each Saturday to restore the Bill of Rights for everyone in the United States. We are appalled at the inhumane treatment of immigrants and citizens, the lack of Congressional support for policies and programs for the people Congress represents, and the chaos of a leader who imagines invading other countries. And so much more… See our events page for some of our activities to help our neighbors.
Please join us. We walk to protect our rights. We walk to help our community when needs arise, such as our school supply drive and our ongoing food and diaper drive.
Love thy neighbor.
