Do's and Don'ts of a Concussion
Don'ts
Do NOT take medications containing Ibuprofen (Advil & Motrin); Ibuprofen is a blood thinner and is a risk in the event of a brain bleed
Do NOT take medications containing aspirin or naproxen (Aleve)
Do NOT drive until cleared to do so
Do NOT take sleeping pills or sleeping Aids
Do's
You may use Acetaminophen (Tylenol)
Allow them to rest
Allow them to keep a normal sleep schedule
Eat a healthy diet
Concussion Red Flags
Seek care immediately if symptoms significantly worsen or if there are behavioral changes. Watch for any of the following serious signs and symptoms, which may not appear immediately after the injury. Go to the nearest emergency department if you experience any of the following signs and symptoms.
Increasingly severe headache
Pupils unequal or unreactive
Uncharacteristic behavior changes
Seizure or convulsions
Severe neck pain
Weakness or numbness in arms or legs
Slurred speech
Loss of consciousness
Fluctuating consciousness
