Water for the People, Décor for the City: Nymphaea and Public Fountains in Iudaea/Syria-Palaestina and Provincia Arabia from the Roman until the Byzantine Periods
(ca. 1st BCE-7th CE)
With the support of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the WaterDecor project will research nymphaea and public fountains in the regions of Judaea/Syria-Palaestina and Provincia Arabia. This research spans from the establishment of the Roman province to the Byzantine Period, covering the period from the 1st BCE to the 7th century CE. The project investigates the construction of these water management installations across a wide semi-arid area. Furthermore, it delves into the local perception of these structures and examines the impact of climate change on both these installations and the broader urban water distribution system. This project uses historical records to address EU challenges in climate action and resource efficiency.
