Messiahs by the dozen
By Jacob Maglies
I found Jesus at the bottom of a cracker jacks box
He said “You are forgiven” in a little paper speech bubble
Frankly, I don’t know if I believe him
Orpheus Eyes
by Gianna Avenoso
Roses grey; fields of midnight violets;
Dullness fills the toxic fumes of a working man.
Bliss to those who dream of black and white sugarplums tonight.
Fools with blinded eyes;
Blocked with hellish delusions populate the masses.
Masses but one, that blooms from
The cracks of abandoned color.
A child cursed with ethereal eyes
That envision a new perspective.
Skies are galaxies, clouds are cotton candy,
Oceans are tears of long forgotten trapped artists,
And trees are skyscrapers.
These Orpheus eyes see a society thriving from boring unoriginality,
But with lost hopes, could undoubtedly walk the road of hell.
But as for the tale of Euridice, can salvation find it’s beat
Of creativity
?
maybe so, maybe not,
But we still sing the song of yesterday’s pot
ential
,
With hopes of vivid
,
red, weathered dreams tomorrow

Moon Complete Me
by Gianna Avenoso
Show yourself blessed moon, to all that can see
Fill me with limelight glow; that nightingale
No more escape to the dawn, complete me
I will set your love and starlight free
Teach you to fantasize my daytime tale
No more escape to the dawn, complete me
Let’s ride the waves with our passion at sea
Unravel the mysticism of your ocean sails
Show yourself blessed moon, to all that can see
Embrace my body, the innocence of me
Allow me to love your curvy detail
No more escape to the dawn, complete me
Reciprocated affection is the key
A leap of faith for us to prevail
Show yourself blessed moon, to all that can see
No more escape to the dawn, complete me

One Moment
by Gianna Avenoso
A moment
A moment in time
A moment in time within our universe
A moment in time within our universe that makes us special
A moment in time within our universe that makes us feel infinite
A moment in time within our universe that makes us all one…
I want that
I want to grab and replay it on the radio
I want to hold it’s hand for all eternity
I want to call it my own
I want to be as infinite as it made me once feel
I want…
That moment when you curled up on my lap and the blue lights gleamed from your sneakers
The time of day when you pass the electric lines and they fall in line
That moment when we were idiots in your kitchen creating words of art and we grooved like dancing queens
The time of day when it’s the golden hour and the morning glow hits your face like Mona Lisa
That moment when we’re in your pool at one in the morning, jamming to the autotunes of your phone
That special instant when you see love at first sight
That distant memory when you can’t even say nudity in front of your closest friend and the feeling of embarrassment still rises
The time when you held me tight and screamed I am enough, I am beautiful, and that I am yours
That moment where we feasted as remembrance to our childhood memories
That long ago memory when we both won and held each other so close with our hearts beating for the sake of art
That day when we all circled around one another, confessed our inner truths, and we were there for each other
That moment where you belong to something more than a school, a play, or a class… your support system…your community…your family
That moment
Let me have it, that one moment
That moment in time within our universe that makes us all one
That moment in time within our universe that makes us feel infinite
That moment in time within our universe that makes us special
That moment in time within our universe
That moment in time
That moment
