WarpSpeed is powered by nothing more than Java and PHP. While WarpSpeed may be a crude solution to getting around Lightspeed, it has its advantages over other methods students use. For one thing, data rerouting software such as Psiphon, TOR and VPN require either a personal computer or flash drive to use and can be fairly easily detected by admins. These methods have no substantial support on mobile devices and can also be detected easily by local monitoring applications. A computer using TOR, for example, sends encrypted packets to servers, which stands out to network admins. Psiphon connects to Psiphon servers which triggers red flags from network monitoring applications. VPN is probably the least detectable of these three platforms, however reliable VPN service often costs money and does not actually encrypt traffic. Network admins can usually see exactly which websites you visit on VPN since it is not encrypted.

We do not want to disclose too many details on how the WarpSpeed remote service works but we can explain the basics of this system. We chose Java as our computing language because it is easier than C and runs completely on a VM. this saved us from having to buy servers with heavy-duty hardware to run C code.

If you are looking for the source code to WarpSpeed, we're sorry, but you'll have to join the WarpSpeed team to gain access to it. We don't want to give out our code to anyone unless we have verified that that person will not redistribute the source code, potentially to network administrators, or even worse Lightspeed Systems employees.
