About Us

We are Niki B. and Tegan M. and we identify as cis-gender white women. We are both teachers based in New York, NY. As educators, we co-facilitate a faculty and staff SEED group, faculty staff white affinity spaces, and in 2019-2020, we piloted white accountability partnerships (WAP) in our professional community.

We are motivated to make the structure, accountability, and resources of WAP available outside of our professional community in order to inspire and engage white folks in the necessary work--that is necessarily regular and constant--of uprooting racism and white supremacy in ourselves, our families, and our communities.

Niki

I am a native Vermonter and hold on to that part of my identity intensely even though I've been in New York for almost 14 years. I teach second grade and love seeing the world through my student's eyes. It grounds me in this work. Tegan is my white accountability partner and also keeps me grounded in this work by pushing me to lean in and encouraging me to use my voice more. For that I am so grateful. In my spare time, I enjoy being outside running, hiking, biking, or sitting in a park with friends. I'm also an avid yogi, book reader, and I love doing crossword puzzles.

pronunciation guide: rhymes with "vegan"

I grew up in a trailer park in Las Vegas, NV and identify as "white trash adjacent." I currently teach high school science and an interdisciplinary elective focused on wicked problems. In addition to SEED, WAP, and white affinity spaces, I also facilitate an anti-racist white affinity space for high school students as part of the Young Women's Cooperative. Niki is my white accountability partner and I'm so grateful that she keeps me honest about when I'm easily dismissing criticism while also supporting my over-the-top ideas. When not teaching, I snuggle with my cat Lina, enjoy hiking, camping, and backpacking, and I read as many books as I can.
