2024-25 Community Service Requirement
Each member is required to complete 10 service hours per year they are a member. Hours must be outside of school hours unless there is an AP Academy sponsored event or opportunity. All community service hours should be submitted through the AP Academy Canvas page.
Community Service Opportunities:
Serve your fellow students by becoming a tutor. Fill out this form and let us know which courses you're willing to tutor others in. When a student requests help, you'll be contacted if there is a match.
Students can volunteer to tutor for community service hours by clicking the link below.
ALL TUTORING HOURS MUST BE VERIFIED BY A TEACHER OR PARENT SIGNATURE IN ORDER TO COUNT FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS.
AP Academy members can also find peer tutors from our list of volunteers. Please contact Mrs. Brisini (hannah_brisini@charleston.k12.sc.us) for more information.
Are there any service requirements? - Yes, all member must serve 5 hours in 2020-2021 and 10 hours for our pre-pandemic years. However, you may use your service hours from other organizations. Members who submit service hours to organizations like National Honors Society may submit a copy of those hours to the AP Academy. You may complete your community service obligation early. For example, if you were accepted as a sophomore and you are a senior this year, then you need to submit 25 hours of service. If you submitted 10 hours your sophomore year and 17 hours last year, congratulations you have met your service requirement and no further action is needed your senior year.
Do I have to attend the AP Summer Institute? - No, the AP Summer Institute is not mandatory. It is a benefit open to only AP Academy students. The goal is to help our students prepare and improve the skills needed to be successful in AP courses and various College Board exams.
What if I can not meet the requirements for the Lecture Series? - You will need to contact Ms. Thatcher or Ms. Lawson since there will be alternate ways to assist the AP Academy.
