There is a big jump from the U10 to U11 play stages. However, this age group is still considered "Developmental", and some special rules still apply. These age groups play 9v9 (8 field players + goalkeeper) and games consist of two 35-minute halves.
No more Build-Out Line. Offsides is now the mid-line. See video below for a brief explanation of the Offsides rule. Practice "building from the back"!
Punting is ALLOWED.
HEADING- is NOT ALLOWED at the U11 age group.
HEADING- is ALLOWED at the U12 age group.
Pass Back- The pass back to the goalie is called at this age group. Though rather inconsistently. Ask the ref before the game to clarify.
Throw-ins- there are no 2nd chances at this age level. A bad throw awards the throw to the opponent.
The typical format for this age group is 9v9 (8 field players + 1 Goalkeeper). In a 9v9 format there are several formations to use. One of the most basic and easy to understand is the 1-3-3-2. As shown in the image the 1-3-3-2 demonstrates 4 layers of field positions starting with the Goalkeeper and moving up the field.
1- Indicates the Goalkeeper
3- Indicates 3 Defensive players (or backs), Left Back, Center Back, & Right Back.
3- Indicates the Midfield players- Left Mid, Center Mid, & Right Mid.
2- Indicates the Striker or Forward- Left Forward & Right Forward.
