Fresh Tracks..The Ski Industry

Fresh Tracks. 2015-Canadian Mountain Holidays Heli-Ski Resort

De icing the chairlift, Mt Buller, Australia

The ways that skiing inspire me are innumerable. It has taken me around the world, from Australia, to the breathtaking peaks in my own backyard of British Columbia. It has inspired me to push through fear and self-doubt. To overcome what seem like insurmountable obstacles to pursue what has become a lifelong passion. Most of all though, I am forever inspired by the incredible people around me; some of the most humble, life-loving amazing humans on earth. The badass ladies in freesking that continue to push boundaries, smash stereotypes, and drive me to reach higher, work harder, and never give up on what feeds my soul. Skiing doesn't just inspire me, for me it defines true happiness, true friendship...true freedom.

iF3 International Freeski Film Festival, Quebec, Canada. Workshop for women in the ski Industry, 2015. I won a trip to this workshop by submitting my statement above, on my passion for the industry.

My work experience in the ski industry started by working as a chair lift attendant at Sun Peaks Ski Resort in Kamloops BC, which lead to the opportunity to work as a lead hand in ensuing years in charge of on-mountain supervision of all lift operations on a daily basis. I then worked for 2 seasons at Mt. Buller, Australia, as a lift operator/start-up/deicing crew member. I also trained in use of fall-arrest harness, and working at heights in extreme weather. I was honored to earn the “Best New Lift Operator” Merit award!

Back in Canada, I worked at Canadian Mountain Holidays Heli-Ski Resort as a Guest Services/Kitchen/Housekeeping Attendant. Duties included all aspects of meeting the needs of customers at the resort. Part of my duties included working with guides while skiing as a helper for guests, gaining extensive experience around helicopters in a winter mountain setting. I also received additional training in avalanche rescue and beacon use.
