Below is the Vermont AOE Document on Testing Requirements. (8/2022 Update)
Basic Skills: All educators need to demonstrate basic skills knowledge in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. This can be done in a variety of ways including: Praxis Core Exam, Qualifying SAT/ACT/GRE scores, College Coursework.
Content Area Knowledge Tests: Most (but not all) certification areas require the Praxis II Content Exams. Prior to being recommended for licensure, these tests need to be passed. The recommendation is to take these exams in mid-winter or before so it does not hold up your recommendation for licensure. The document below provides information on the exact test you will need to take. If you take the exam and do not pass it, there is some flexibility with additional evidence of content knowledge. Contact the AOE, your school district, or Juliette Longchamp at Vermont-NEA if you have questions.
As of August, 2022, there are some options for satisfying the Basic Skills Requirements through College Coursework. This is described in the document below.
