Vermont RTAP (Registered TeacherApprenticeship Program) was formed to address the teacher shortage in Vermont, initially focused on the Northeast Kingdom. John Castle, Executive Director of the Vermont Rural Education Collaborative, lit the spark on Registered Apprenticeship Programs in Education in Vermont. He quickly partnered with many individuals, Vermont Department of Labor, Vermont Agency of Education, Vermont-NEA, as well as other organizations from across the country to put Vermont on the Education Registered Teacher Apprenticeship Program.
In its second year, the VT Registered Teacher Apprenticeship Program is now led by the Vermont Agency of Education with partners that includes Vermont-NEA, the Vermont Department of Labor, and nine school districts.
