Research Assistants

Kathryn Athanasaw

Kathryn (she/her/hers) is a senior double majoring in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience and Psychology. Her research interests are trauma, PTSD, and neuropsychology. Kathryn plans to attend graduate school, focusing on her research interests. In her free time, she likes to tend to her plants, go to the gym, and pursue creative passions.

Brianna Brown

Brianna (she/her/hers) is a fourth year psychology major with a Spanish minor at Virginia Tech. She is interested in pursuing a career in clinical mental health counseling with focuses on eating disorders, trauma, and general mental illness. She is particularly interested in serving underrepresented communities as well. For fun, Brianna enjoys thrifting, food photography, and aimlessly Tik Tok (guilty pleasure).

Anna Garban

Anna (she/her/hers) is a Psychology Major with minors in Sociology and Integrative Health. Her research interests are eating disorders in sports and fitness. Anna plans to utilize her experience in the lab and knowledge from her psychology degree in her fitness career and may one day find herself in graduate school studying sports psychology. 

Sophia Hand

Sophia (she/her/hers) is a senior at Virginia Tech majoring in Public Health with a minor in Psychology. She is interested in pursuing a career in clinical social work with focuses on mood and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, ADHD, and autism spectrum disorder. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, watching TV, and spending time with her dog. 

Nicole Javier

Nicole (she/her/hers) is a senior at Virginia Tech. She is broadly interested in mental illness, and specifically interested in disordered eating and weight stigma. Nicole aspires to pursue a career as a clinical or counseling psychologist. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family. She also enjoys going to the gym and being outdoors.

Emmalina Jennings

​Emmalina (she/her/hers) is a junior double majoring in Human Nutrition, Food, and Exercise, with a concentration in Dietetics, and Psychology. She is interested in pursuing a career in Nutrition and Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a focus on eating disorders. In her free time, she enjoys working out, watching her favorite television sitcom series, spending time with her family, and reading.

Denise Kesselring-Dacey

Denise (she/her/hers) is a senior at Virginia Tech. She is interested in eating disorders and comorbid psychopathology, and is excited to learn more about research while working in the SEED lab. Denise plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and to have a career that includes both clinical work and academic research. In her free time, Denise enjoys watching TV and movies, and reading. She also loves to travel.

Emily Mix

Emily (she/her/hers) is a sophomore at Virginia Tech and a double major in Psychology and Criminology. She is very interested in clinical psychology and hopes to become a clinical forensic psychologist in the future. In her free time, Emily enjoys working out, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

Kiana Price

Kiana (she/her/hers) is a Junior at Virginia Tech majoring in Psychology with minors in Spanish and Adaptive Brain and Behavior. She has interests in both social and clinical psychology and wants to eventually obtain her Psy. D in Clinical Psychology. When free, she loves to try new food spots, spend time with her friends and family, bake, and travel.

Leah Humphrey

Leah (she/her/hers) graduated from Virginia Tech with a major in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience. Her research interests include eating disorders, anxiety disorders, and the comorbidity between them. Leah is interested in attending graduate school and would love to conduct research in a clinical or academic position in the future. For fun, Leah enjoys dancing, hiking, and spending time with friends and family.

Natavan Karsh

Natavan (she/her/hers) graduated from Virginia Tech. She is interested in how variability in access to food at a young age impacts overall health and eating habits later in life.  Natavan hopes to pursue graduate training in counseling or social work. In her free time, she loves hiking, working out with friends, and trying different restaurants around Blacksburg.
