Developing a robust wildfirecommunications plan for both emergencies and non-emergencies is crucial for communities such as Oak Park. Oak Park is an area where the topography naturally lends itself to the potential for wildfires. Facilitating community outreach from our firefighting, policing, and other emergency response leaders with our Oak Park community in the form of public events, would allow an opportunities for those leaders to teach the community about wildfire prevention techniques as well as emergency response procedures, such as evacuation, that citizens should follow when an emergency occurs in the area.
When educated about the proper methods for evacuating and additional emergency response procedures, appoint a neighborhood captain as the touch point for each particular street, neighborhood or HOA. This would allow for much improved coordination on a grassroots, neighbourhood level as well as increase the communication between the community and the emergency response services as neighbourhood captains could serve as liasons of information between the two parties.
