We are looking for the perfect retirement home for Helena.
We are looking for the perfect retirement home for Helena.
It has come to our attention lately that Helena is being picked on by our two younger females. Helena would do best in an active home with children or with an older couple where she can be the center of attention and the only dog.
Helena is a very docile, affectionate female who loves being with her people and has an outstanding temperament. She is fully health tested and up to date on everything. She is already spayed and gastropexied. She is SV normal hips and elbows, cardiac normal, eye CERF normal, Embark panel completely clear, microchipped, and AKC DNA on file. She also holds numerous titles that reflect her stable temperament, intelligence, and trainability.
Helena should not be placed in a home with cats. She means them no harm, but she becomes overly focused on grooming and cleaning them and is unable to settle or leave them alone.
Helena was imported from Serbia and comes from well-respected German show and working bloodlines. She is a beautiful black and red female with rich, dark red pigmentation and an outstanding temperament. Throughout her career, Helena has earned numerous show titles, including SG and V ratings. She has also obtained her BH/VT, IGP1, and KKL, along with her ATT, CGC, CGCA, CGCU, FDC, TKN, and VHMA titles. These accomplishments reflect her sound temperament, trainability, and versatility.
Helena is affectionate, easygoing, and enjoys being with her people. She loves squeaky toys, stuffed toys, and absolutely loves water. She is happiest when she is included in daily family life and spending time with her family.
Helena can be cautious when first introduced to men and when adjusting to a new home environment due to her past. When she is unsure of herself, she may pace back and forth or spin in circles for a short period while she settles in. Prior to coming to us, Helena lived primarily as a kennel dog and developed her spinning behavior during that time. Since joining our family, she has been an indoor house dog and sleeps in bed with us every night.
Helena is both house trained and crate trained. She is very good in the house but, like any dog, if her requests to go outside are repeatedly ignored, she will eventually find a place to relieve herself indoors.
We have Helena to a point where she can be trusted off lead with us; however, it took a very long time, a great deal of training, and a strong bond to reach that level of trust. Because of her background, we do not recommend allowing her off leash. If Helena becomes frightened or overwhelmed, she will take off and is unlikely to return when called. For this reason, a securely fenced yard is required for her new home. We will require proof of secure fencing before Helena is permitted to leave for her new home.
Like many dogs, Helena simply needs a little time to adjust to change, but once she feels comfortable and secure, her affectionate and easygoing personality truly shines through. She forms strong bonds with her people, loves being included in daily activities, and thrives when she is part of the family.
This decision has not come easy, and we are in absolutely no rush to place her. Helena is a very special girl to us, and we will only consider placing her if the right home comes along. Finding the perfect fit for Helena and her future family is far more important to us than placing her quickly.
We do not need to place Helena. We have the setup, resources, and means to care for her for the rest of her life. However, we would love to see her in a home where she can be the center of attention, receive one-on-one companionship, and enjoy the life she truly deserves. If that perfect home never comes along, Helena will happily remain with us.
Because Helena means so much to us, she must go to a home that is willing to stay in touch and provide regular updates, photos, and videos throughout her retirement. Maintaining contact with her new family is very important to us, and we would like regular updates for the rest of her life.
