Scribes are responsible for capturing the judge's comments and scores on the correct test sheets. Scribes should be quiet and polite during tests, keep comments about horses and riders to yourself, so the judge can be fair and focused on the rider in front of them. Being organized and having good handwriting helps.
Scribing experience is required for our shows. For new scribes, please reach out to your chapter and ask to scribe at a schooling show, first.
Stewards are responsible for maintaining safe conditions in the arenas, as well as checking equipment. That includes asking riders to exit an area for equipment check and clearing gates, among other things. Checking equipment is also a large part of this job. Checking whip length, nosebands, bits, and spurs with the guidance of a Technical Delegate.
No experience is necessary, but Warm-Up Steward is a better place for those without any experience stewarding.
Stewards are responsible for maintaining safety in warm-up arenas. That includes watching for unsafe behavior, clearing rings during drag breaks, and ensuring that horses are warming up appropriately. Helping the riders stay on time is also a component of this job.
No experience is necessary, this is a great job for show parents.
Runners are on foot, and are responsible for picking up tests from all judges in an arena. Keeping quiet and calm so as not to interrupt anyon'es test is key. Sometimes messages from the office to the judges are passed through these volunteers.
No Experience needed, this is the perfect job for young volunteers, as it requires a lot of walking.
Drivers pilot a golf cart around the show grounds, picking up tests from judges or runners. Helping get volunteers and officials to and from their rings is also included.
No experience needed, this is perfect for first time volunteers who want to help.
