Void Archives does not condone piracy, but we're also realistic - knowing that many people will rely on it anyways. So let’s be brutally clear about the risks and limitations the use of pirated copies has. If you want a smooth and mod-friendly RimWorld experience, buy the game (ideally through Steam!) Nothing else comes close. There are a some other considerations with pirated copies of RimWorld, so let's just state some facts first:
The Steam Workshop is de facto the only consistently reliable source for up-to-date mods for RimWorld.
Even if you’re running a non-Steam copy, you can (and should) still download mods from the Workshop using tools like RimSort.
Many pirated releases are broken, outdated, or tampered with from the start. DLC-files are often broken.
Troubleshooting errors on pirated copies is often just impossible, many communities will also categorically refuse to help with them.
Helpers can usually spot a pirated copy in seconds. Don't try to hide the fact, that would just waste everyone’s time - so at least be upfront.
If you absolutely insist on pirating though, at least do it right! Always match the current stable Steam version of RimWorld and find a source that doesn't throw broken copies or outright spyware at you. In the end a legitimate Steam copy saves you endless headaches and gives you proper updates, Workshop access, and actual support when something goes wrong. The few dollars you “save” by pirating are almost always spent ten times over in frustration and lost saves.
