Games of Singles are played on Thursdays in the 2nd hour. The Executive Committee will designate which format (Round Robin, Pyramid Challenge, Ladder Challenge, and Giant Round Robin, etc) may be used for play on any particular Thursday. Participation is not mandatory.
Round Robin:
4 tables are set up and players warm up (backhand to backhand and forehand to forehand).
When a Round Robin Singles Tournament is held, the Tournament Director assigns players to a particular round robin flight and table. Those flight players play one game of 11 points against every player in their flight and record their win-loss results on the scoreboard sheet (inside 3 ring binder).
At the end of the round robin flight games, the Director identifies the flight's players who finished 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place, and 4th place.
1st place finishers then play single elimination games (lose your out, win you play again) versus their counterparts. The same playoff occurs with the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishers.
The winner of the single elimination games among the #1's will be declared the A Champion. The #2's, #3's, #4's elimination games winners will be declared the B, C, and D Champions respectively.
Pyramid Challenge:
Players are listed on a Pyramid board that shows the #1 ranked player at the top followed by the #2 and #3 ranked players in the immediate row below. This continues with rows that represent the #4 through #36 ranked players.
Players are only allowed to challenge players in their ranked row and one row above. If they successfully defeat the higher ranked player, then their ranking positions are exchanged.
Ladder Challenge:
Players play a game of Singles and only stop scoring at a predetermined amount of time. If there is a tie score, then one additional 'Golden Point' determines the outcome.
Winners move up one table and Losers move down one table.
Giant Round Robin:
Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced rated players only play their counterparts in a round robin tournament.
