Privacy Policy for Vocab Vault

EduStar Studio ("we," "our," or "us") operates the mobile application Vocab Vault ("App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our App.

By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

Account information: You must create an account to use the App. Depending on the sign-in method you choose (email and password, Google Sign-In, or Sign in with Apple), we collect:

• Email address. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive only the private relay address Apple provides.

• Display name (optional, and only if your sign-in provider supplies it or you set one)

• A user identifier assigned by our authentication provider

Profile and preferences: Settings you choose in the App, including:

• Study preferences, such as daily word goals, review scheduling settings, and your currently selected deck

• Notification and reminder settings, including your daily reminder time

• Theme and display preferences

Study data: When you use the App to learn vocabulary, we store:

• Your enrollments and learning progress, including which decks you are studying and how far you have progressed

• Your scheduling state for each card, used to decide when to show it again

• Daily study summaries and statistics, such as streaks, minutes studied, and words mastered

• Optional notes and mnemonics you add to individual words

Support requests: If you send feedback from within the App, we receive your message together with your email address, your user identifier, the app version, your platform, and basic device information, so that we can respond and reproduce any problem you report.

Your learning data is written to your device first. When you are signed in, it is also uploaded to our servers so that your progress is available on your other devices and is not lost if you change or reset your device.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

Device and app information: The App and the service providers that support it may collect:

• A push notification token, which identifies your installation so we can deliver study reminders and other notifications you have enabled. This token is associated with your account.

• Device or advertising identifiers used to serve and measure ads

• App version and basic device information

Diagnostics: We collect crash reports and technical diagnostics to identify and fix defects and improve stability. These reports are not linked to your account or to your identity.

Advertising: When we show ads to users on the free tier, our advertising providers may collect:

• Device or advertising identifiers

• Data about ad views and interactions

• Approximate location derived from your IP address, such as your country, for ad relevance and legal compliance

We do not operate a separate analytics service, and we do not build behavioural profiles of you. If you subscribe to Vocab Vault Pro, ads are disabled in the App.

We do not track you across other companies’ apps and websites. The App does not ask for permission to track, and it does not link your information with third-party data for the purpose of targeted advertising or advertising measurement.

1.3 Purchases and Subscriptions

• Payment for Vocab Vault Pro is processed by the app store through which you make the purchase. A subscription service provider helps us confirm your subscription status and provide Pro access.

• We do not collect, see, or store your payment details, such as card numbers.

• We receive your subscription status and related purchase identifiers so we can provide Pro access and restore it across your devices. The service that verifies subscriptions receives the account identifier needed for this purpose.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide the App: Create and manage your account, synchronise your progress across your devices, and deliver the vocabulary learning and spaced repetition features.

• Manage your account: Authenticate you, apply your profile and preferences, and support account recovery such as password resets.

• Send notifications you have enabled: Deliver study reminders, review reminders, streak reminders, and similar messages, which you can turn off at any time.

• Improve the App: Diagnose crashes and technical errors so we can fix them.

• Show advertising: Display and measure ads for users on the free tier.

• Manage subscriptions: Verify your Vocab Vault Pro subscription and enable premium features such as an ad-free experience and premium decks.

• Respond to you: Answer feedback and support requests you send us.

• Protect our services: Prevent abuse and fraud, and keep the App and its users secure.

• Comply with law: Meet our legal obligations and protect our rights and the safety of our users.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following cases:

Service providers: We share only the information needed for trusted providers to perform services on our behalf. These providers support:

• Account access, secure cloud storage and synchronisation, notifications, diagnostics, and abuse prevention

• Ad delivery and measurement, including the collection and management of advertising consent where required

• Subscription verification and entitlement management

• App stores and their payment providers for purchase processing

Legal and safety: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of us, our users, or others.

Business transfers: If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to the same privacy protections.

4. Data Storage and Security

• On your device: Your learning data is encrypted on your device, and the information needed to unlock it is protected by the device’s operating system.

• Online storage: Account information and synchronised learning data are stored with trusted cloud service providers.

• During transfer: We encrypt information while it travels between the App and our online services.

• Access controls: We restrict access to stored data so that your learning data is available only through your signed-in account and to authorised providers that need it to operate the service.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Your Choices and Controls

• Account details: You can update your display name and change your password from the profile screen in the App.

• Cloud data: Under Settings, Cloud sync lets you synchronise immediately with Sync Now, and lets you remove your data from our servers with Remove data from cloud. Removing your cloud data leaves your progress on the device you are using.

• Notifications: You can turn reminders on or off in the App, and you can revoke notification permission at any time in your device settings.

• Advertising consent: Where required, the App asks for your advertising choices before showing personalised ads. If a privacy options control is available in your region, you can use it in Settings to review or change your choice.

• Ads: Subscribing to Vocab Vault Pro removes ads from the App. Advertising partners may still process data under their own policies in connection with other apps and services.

• Location: The App does not request precise location, and it has no location permission. Advertising partners may infer approximate location, such as your country, from your IP address.

6. Data Retention

• We keep your account and synchronised data while your account is active.

• After you request account deletion, we delete or anonymise your data within a reasonable period, normally within 30 days, except where we must retain it for legal, security, or fraud-prevention reasons.

• Some data, such as aggregated or anonymised records and backup logs, may be retained for longer in a form that does not identify you.

• Crash reports are retained according to our diagnostics provider’s retention schedule and are not linked to your account.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
• Delete your account and the personal data associated with it
• Export your data in a portable format, where feasible
• Object to or restrict certain processing, where applicable law provides for it
• Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent

How to delete your account and data

In the App: Open the profile screen, navigate to Profile page using pen icon and choose Delete account. This permanently removes your account and the learning data associated with it.

By email: Write to edustarstudio@gmail.com with the subject line "Delete my account" and the email address associated with your account. We will process your request within 30 days and confirm once your data has been removed.

For other rights, such as access or correction, contact us at the same address and we will respond in line with applicable law.

8. Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13, or under the equivalent age in your country. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. International Data Transfers

Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States, where our service providers operate. Where required by law, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses.

10. Third-Party Links and Services

The App may link to third-party websites or services, such as support pages. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties, and we encourage you to read their privacy policies.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy in the App or on our website, and by updating the "Last updated" date at the top.

Your continued use of the App after the effective date of the new policy constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. If you do not agree, you should stop using the App and may request account deletion.
