In today's world you won’t go a day without seeing the public without some sort of device in their ear, taking in the wonders of their favourite playlists. Music is such a powerful mechanism to cure any heart-felt suffering or to bring us ultimate elation. Emotions within songs can trigger our internal emotions. The way the brain processes music can lift up the moods we are in, keep us calm, concentrated or even deepen our thinking.
Music has structure, progression and syntax. Just like language, the brain processes musical syntax using the same area it uses to process language syntax. So, music literally speaks to us. Isn’t it time you learned more about how it influences you?
I would be very surprised if anyone reading this has not come across an emotional experience with music. There is nothing else in our world quite like it! Music helps us understand our emotions, alter our moods, have fun and even help us with triggering our memory. There are many anecdotes of people like Carol Howard, who suffered from Dementia and could no longer recognise her husband, but could sing every word “effortlessly” of a 1960s Simon & Garfunkel song. Also, there are mechanics behind types of ‘sounds’ that help reduce pain and anxiety. The way how music eases pain remains unclear, researchers still believe the reason behind the mechanics of helping our pain and anxiety is because music triggers the realise of opioids in the brain and body and the body's natural pain relievers. In 2013, Dr. D Levity proves that people experienced less pleasure from listening to their favourite song when given naltrexone, which is similar to morphine, and blocks opiate receptors in the nervous system.
Music does not always have to be the focus, it can be used in another way to create an atmosphere. Social events are often great places to enjoy some background music as it is a way to cut out the awkwardness and brings everyone together in a more comfortable setting. Music is such a fascinating way to trade interests with a stranger, it almost wraps up everyone's individual aesthetic as I believe that music is one of the main aspects of our inspiration to live and who we want to be. Music determines what crowd of people we put ourselves around.
Music changes our lives even when we do not notice it. This world is totally influenced by the rhythm of music. Music was suggested as a way of healing the body in ancient Egyptian medical texts that date back as far as 1500 BCE. All are used for therapeutic purposes. The original creation of music was for entertainment purposes such as dancing, singing and rituals. Going to concerts is good for our health. Music proves that the health of your body can increase when listening to the frequencies and sound waves of music as 20 minutes at a gig can lead to 21% increase in feeling of well-being. Heart rate tests show that the feelings of self-worth and its closets others improve by 25%, overall this leads those who listen to music to feel a sensation, whether it may be happy or sad. There has been a spike of artists that discover their passion for creating music simply because technology has made music so much more accessible, meaning there are more people out there who want it more often.
Music changes the way our mental and physical health, switches our current moods and it may influence others to change their appearance with fashion. Music is a human trait that goes back at least 35,000 years ago, although there is no proven evidence of who whistled for the first time or sang with a rhythm. The most popular music genre worldwide is currently pop music, hip hop/rap, it is the most listened genre among listeners between ages 12 and 18.
