My mother would always say, " Study, because nobody can take away from you what you put in your mind." As a child growing up in post-communist Hungary, I did not fully appreciate the wisdom of her words until later, but even at the time, I knew that she just shared something important with me. As I was growing up, moved through the education system, and had various life experiences, I understood what she meant more and more. She instilled in me a passion for education, a love of community, and a constant need to do more and be better.
It was my mother who encouraged me to leave everything behind and take the opportunity to move to New York City. After a rough start and some challenging years, I found my footing and continued to follow my passion.
Throughout the years I have served the community as an ENL teacher, coordinator, later literacy coach, and SEL leader. I recently earned my SBL and SDL certifications and completed the DOE’s Wallace Leadership Fellows Program.
I am a leader, a teacher, and first and foremost a learner. I believe there is always more to learn, and we can always do and be better. I believe that education is not just about academics, we also need to support our students' emotional needs, empower them to use their voices, and provide them with a safe and loving environment. I believe in the power of relationships and community. As educators, we do not function in a vacuum; we need each other and the community around us to make a difference in children's lives. I believe in empowering teachers, students, and families. When people feel heard and valued, they can do amazing things!
This portfolio showcases my work as a leader, teacher, and learner. Thank you for being here.
