So what are the factors which can be measured to assess the overall health of the population of a given region?
So what are the factors which can be measured to assess the overall health of the population of a given region?
One of the ways to assess the health in a population of a region is to see how much % of GDP is the government of the country spending on health in a country.
In our visualization we can see that developed countries such as U.S and the average high income countries like in Europe invest a great % of their GDP into health expenses. We can also see some places like Sierra Leone a country with although a low GDP invests quite a lot in it’s health industry. We also see an anomaly such as Monaco which is considered a very rich province but does not invest much in health which might be due to the fact that the people there can afford healthcare themselves. Our visualization gives the overall breakdown in for this decade and lists the Top and Bottom 10 for the same.
How is the overall % spend increasing down the years?
We also see that the spending also has been on an upward trend.
How many % children are vaccinated from a few diseases throughout the world (Measles)?
Another major aspect that we have taken into account for health of children is the essential vaccination of children from diseases which have been almost eradicated such as Measles and DPT.
In 1978, CDC set a goal to eliminate measles from the United States by 1982. Although this goal was not met, widespread use of measles vaccine drastically reduced the disease rates. By 1981, the number of reported measles cases was 80% less compared with the previous year. This lead to measles being eliminated by the 2000.
Our visualization aims to provide an overview of children between 12-25 months who have been immunized from these diseases.
What we observe is that many developed countries mainly in Europe such as Hungary and Sweden seem to have almost 100% vaccination rate whereas we see a very low in poorer countries mainly in Africa and Asia which have a lower % rate
How many % children are vaccinated from a few diseases throughout the world (DPT)?
DPT is also a similar case as measles and is considered eliminated in many countries. In our visualization we can notice that again well developed countries in Europe such as Hungary and Sweden show a good vaccination record showing how much importance the country gives to health of the population. Countries again in Africa and Asia show us a something different and shows that more work needs to be done there.
How has the overall average changed around the world for both DPT and Measles?
We can see that the overall % has almost doubled in 40 years after the introduction of these vaccines in the early 1970’s from 40% to 87%.
So now in the next page let's see what are some of the educational factors which we can take into account to measure education in children
