The Gardener (2016) by Fintan Magee
Acrylic paint on concrete, Ragusa Italy
The artist has painted the large dominant figure of the man tending the plants to fill most of the surface of the building, he is larger than everything else in the painting this gives him importance and ensures he is the focal point of the artwork.
The artist has created an artwork on the side of a building at an enormous scale, this contrasts with the realistic scale of the urban surroundings, this creates a focal point in the urban landscape, the mural will be visible for miles.
The artist has painted the proportion of the man and the plant life on the same scale and this is representative of realism, if viewed outwith it's context within the landscape then this painting would look like a realistic scale.
The artist has painted the artwork at an overly large unconventional scale, and has chosen to paint the top of the building blue as well both of which make the man look like a giant who is taller than the building with his head in the sky.
