Dublin's history is not just about important historical events. The city is loaded with a strong cultural identity that intoxicates people and attracts foreigners to visit this city that everyone talks about. Dublin is a city of celebration, of sharing, of joy. It is also a multicultural capital, which welcomes many foreigners every year, including many students. That's why cultural activities are not only limited to museums.
Hurling is a national sport in Ireland, it is part of the Gaelic games. It is a complex sport, which is played in team with a cross. This sport gathers a lot of people, young and old, because a lot of people practice it. It is a very violent sport, there is a lot of contact and the speed of the ball can go up to 110km/h. I had the chance to attend a hurling match: Dublin-Waterford, a moment that I really enjoyed diving into the Irish sport culture. It is a sport whose rules are easy to deduce, so go with your eyes closed.
Rugby is also a very famous and appreciated sport in Ireland, especially for the Irish team which gathers excellent players. Moreover the sport is also known for the 6 nations tournament which gathers millions of fans through the matches. Sport is very much a part of the Irish culture, including Rugby. However, it is not the most famous sport on the island, the Gaelic games take the lead. But let yourself be tempted by a rugby match if you are visiting Ireland, you won't be disappointed by the Irish atmosphere. In Dublin, you will find many stadiums like the most famous: Croke Park, otherwise why not watch the game in an Irish pub with a good beer.
Nightlife is very popular in Dublin. Nightclubs, bars, rooftops, trendy or typical Irish places, the party is everywhere in Dublin at night. It is a very student city, which breathes youth and which leaves room for crazy nights. If you want to have fun, Dublin is the city for you. There are many clubs all over the city and the prices are affordable, depending on the establishment. The nightlife culture is still a different world than in other European countries where the clubs close at 5:00 am, here they close at 2-3:00 am maximum and the festivities start very early in the evening.
SAINT PATRICK'S DAY ! And yes, if you are in Dublin during March, don't miss Saint Patrick's Day, the national holiday so much awaited all year long, known all over the world and celebrated by all the Irish people in the world (and even the tourists like me :) ). The Irish diasporas in the United States and in Canada also celebrate in a big way during this period, the time to put all your worries aside and to enjoy the Irish atmosphere: parade, parade, costumes of all kinds (because yes, everyone gets caught up in the game), pub crawl, Irish music and dance, meeting and sharing... St. Patrick's Day is really something. You will be in the middle of a green and orange wave in Dublin, the noisy streets will make you feel like in another world.
