Apps For Volume and Clarity Enhancement

Common functions of apps to address hearing loss are:

  • Boosting of selected audio frequency ranges

    • This function is commonly known as 'frequency compensation', an 'equalizer', or a 'tone' control. When installed on a smartphone, tablet, or PC/MAC, the app enables the user to select a volume increase for their hearing loss frequency ranges. These apps will generally work with streamed music and podcasts and may also work with internet calling apps.

  • Microphone apps

    • These Apps use the internal microphone of the phone or tablet to pick up a person's voice, music, or other local sounds. The phone processes the audio and amplifies the sound to the user through the speaker, a headset, earbuds, or a neckloop.

    • As with hearing aids, the device's microphone can only capture clear audio within a short range of up to six or so feet.
