Hours for setting appointments are:
Monday through Friday - 9:00 am to 2:00 pm; Saturday - 9:00 am to 11:00 am
If possible, please bring your prior year tax return when you come to set up your appointment. Once your appointment is set, you will receive instructions and forms which are to be completed prior to your tax preparation appointment. A family member may make your appointment; however, they must know your availability.
Appointments for returning clients may be made using our online appointment system.
You may use the online appointment system if you had a prior tax return prepared at either the Twin Hickory site or the East End Henrico Tax-Aide site.
The system is at https://henricotaxaidecalendars.as.me/ It will be available by January 24, 2026.
If you use the online system, you still need to come by the Twin Hickory Recreation Center site to pick up your “packet.” As always, you must complete the Intake/Interview Form prior to your appointment.
You may come to the site to set up your appointment in person if you wish.
There are three types of appointments. These are In-Person Preparation; DYI, also known as FSA; and Drop Off. The In-Person appointment is the preferred method of tax preparation.
At an In-person appointment, you will have an in-depth interview and wait while your return is prepared. You will sit with the counselor who prepares your return. There will then be a Quality Review. Your tax return will be printed; reviewed with you; and then, after you sign a transmittal form, it will be electronically filed with the IRS and Virginia. You will take the printed copy and all your tax documents with you when you leave. This process will take 1 ½ to 2 hours.
DO IT Yourself (DYI) also known as Facilitated Self Assistance (FSA) is a process where you prepare your tax return using our computer and tax software. We serve as a tax coach by providing in-person guidance regarding software navigation, document identification, and tax law while you prepare your own tax return. We do not give tax advice, we do not enter any data, and we do not do a quality review of your work. Once completed, you will transmit your tax return to the IRS and to the Virginia Department of Taxation. Once started, you have the option of finishing your tax return at home. To use this system, you need your AGI for tax year 2025. There is an income limitation of $86,000 AGI (adjusted gross income) regardless of your filing status. FSA appointments are available only on Thursdays. Please call 804-476-4149 and leave a message requesting a FSA appointment.
Drop-off appointments are only for unique circumstances. These include when a taxpayer cannot come to the site because they are homebound or otherwise incapacitated and a family member is authorized (POA) to handle their affairs; or we determine there are aspects of your tax return that require significant research or work that cannot be done in the normal setting. For a Drop-off Appointment, there is a 30-minute in-depth interview and inventory of your tax documents which you then leave with us. We will contact you by phone for clarifications, additional information, and/or to discuss the completed return. You will return, usually a week later, to review the printed tax return and authorize the electronic filing of your tax return. You will take a printed copy and all your tax documents when you leave. This “Review and Sign” appointment takes between 15-30 minutes depending on the complexity of the tax return and questions you may have.
