The biggest girl group in the world is known to be a South Korean girl group named, BLACKPINK. They debuted in August of 2016 with their album, Square One. Blackpink consists of four (4) members, namely: Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa, and Rosé; Kim Jisoo for
Lead Vocalist, and Visuals, Jennie Kim being Main Rapper, and Lead Vocalist, Lalisa Manobal as the Main Dancer, Lead Rapper, and Sub-Vocalist, and lastly, Roseanne Park as their Main Vocalist, and Lead Dancer. Their group is also known to be the first YG girl group that debuted after seven (7) years from their previous groups, with such astonishing achievements.
Back in 2018 I was introduced to stan twitter, wherein people would have a safe space to openly support their preferred artists; I’d consider myself as a multistan, as I supported various groups at the same time. That being said, I made online friends from the app, and some of them, I am still good friends with, even having a peer of mine and I be close to one another despite not being able to see each other in school; being able to interact with different people made me realize how big yet small our world is – having people connect through the internet, and how fairly close some people are in proximity to me. One of the people that I’ve met through twitter, is the one who encouraged me to listen to Blackpink; during these times, they’ve released a new album, Square Up, and I got to enjoy their music, and funny enough, it was love at first listen in my opinion.
What piqued my interest with Blackpink, is how their concepts, songs, and choreography blend well with one another. One of my hobbies is dancing, and Blackpink’s unique and strong songs make me enjoy it even more. My online friend and I bond over these songs, and even dance them together through video calls, we wait until the premier of the group’s comebacks, and dance and sing along every time it gets played even in public places. Ever since then, I have been such a big part of their fandom, BLINKS. Having such a close bond with other supporters, made it feel as if a fandom is a huge family. The moment that I first saw my friend in real life, I can remember it as if it were yesterday – it was my birthday celebration with my school friends, and he went all the way to Calamba just to celebrate it with me way back 2020; he played their most recent released album, Kill This Love while running towards me, it felt so surreal during that meet, yet it stayed memorable to us up to this date.

Blackpink altogether just seems to have a healthy sisterhood between one another, and that is something that I craved ever since I was little since I was an only child by my parents. Having to see their stories on their videos and see how they’ve grown as a group made me feel at ease, as I can relate to their struggles as individuals, and how they cope in general. I somewhat found comfort with watching them even just on screens, because I know that someday I’d also be successful, it may not be popstar successful, but successful in my own way, and in my own path. Also having supportive people that surround me, pushing me to be a better version of myself.
Speaking of successes, Blackpink has a handful of them throughout the past years. With over 99+ nominations and awards throughout their stay in the music industry, Blackpink remains the highest-charting female Korean act on the Billboard 100, and still continues to win more awards even with their newest album, Born Pink – where their first single, Pink Venom, got over 90 million views in 24 hours. Various enthusiasts and journalists believe that the success of the girl group will continue to prevail even on latter years of their career. As a blink, it makes me giddy seeing my idols earn nominations and awards, and it makes me more excited, as I meet people along the way and form bonds that goes with it. I have had classmates before, that I wasn’t really close with, and never have I expected that something so dear to me would be a connection towards these people, bonding over songs and achievements. Being able to share this experience with others has been a ride for me that has made my overall self esteem pump, as I get to even further unknowingly socialize with others. Who would've known my sudden shift of love to Korean Girl Groups would open up a new opportunity for me? I just known that the uncertainty of the world is my path to take, and I have something that I bring with me with this journey.
eternally, melody
