Under new coach Cody Pierce, the Community Vikings soccer team is ready for the new season. After their first scrimmage of the season was cancelled, the Vikings turn their attention to the last scrimmage before their first game. The Vikings scrimmage MTCS at home on March 7, 2019, and this will be the first time that Coach Pierce has ever coached a soccer match. Senior Luis De Osio stated about this years team, "We have a lot of young payers this year that brings along with them new potential. If we work hard as a team this year, then we will have the opportunity to go places." The Vikings have never made it to the District Championship game, and that is one of the many goals of this year that they hope to achieve. This years soccer schedule and roster is available on the Community High School website. The first game is Monday, March 11, 2018, against Chapel Hill High School. Be sure to come out and support the soccer team as they try to make history!

The Community Vikings and Viqueens are now halfway through the district schedule and hope to continue their winning ways for the second half of the season. With the Viqueens victory on Tuesday night over Nolensville, they are now 4-1 in district play, which has lead to a three-way tie for first. With a crucial game this Friday against Marshall County, the winner will remain tied with Nolensville for first place in the District.
The Vikings are now 3-2 in District play after their win against Nolensville. They are currently in fourth place because of tie-breakers, but they are tied for third place with Central Magnet based off of their record. The game on Friday is just as important for the boys team because the winner will own the tie-breaker over the other in case both teams finish with identical records.
Both teams are trying to continue their strong starts to try and become the one or two seed in the District 12AA Tournament. The one and two seeds get a first round bye, which clinches their place in the Region 6AA Tournament. But all hope is not lost if they do not solidify either of the top spots; the three and four seeds have their first round match-ups at home. As you can see, the next few games are crucial in the Vikings' and Viqueens' seasons. Three of the last five games are at home. Come support the teams, and make your voice be heard! Go Vikings and Viqueens!

With the non-conference part of the schedule finished, the Viqueens and Vikings basketball teams start district play January 8 at home against Marshall County. The Viqueens are off to a hot start with a 10-5 record, and they are in the midst of winning seven out of their last nine games. The Vikings also finished their non-conference schedule off strong with a 11-6 record, and they also currently on a six game winning streak.
Both teams participated in this years 2018 Richland Classic. The girls team suffered a tough loss in the opening game against Pickett County. This did not affect them though as they rolled through the next two games winning by an average of 38 points and also winning the consolation bracket. The Vikings opened up the Richland Classic with a narrow win over Pickett County, but they then defeated Lyndsey Lane (AL) by 34 points. The Vikings fought hard during the championship game and prevailed 56-49 over Fayetteville City. Both teams hope to ride the momentum from this tournament into District play.
Be sure to come out and support the Viqueens and Vikings as the Viqueens try to repeat as District Champions. The Vikings and Viqueens are both enjoying strong starts and hope to continue it against Marshall County.

After a busy start to the season, the Community Viqueens and Vikings have each had outstanding success. The Viqueens are off to a hot 5-3 start, obtaining significant victories over Middle Tennessee Christian School, Huntland, and Eagleville. The 6-4 Vikings recently rode a six game win streak, defeating MTCS, Huntland, Cascade, Summertown, and the defending state champion Loretto Mustangs. The Queens and Kings are looking to close out the non-district schedule with strong success, hoping to build upon the experience they have gained thus far.
Athletic Director Ralph Edwards states, "I think both teams play very hard, and the mistakes we are making are correctable. I believe that once we get into district play in January, we will be able to cut down on those mistakes and be successful." The Vikings and Viqueens will face off next at home on December 7th (Homecoming) against Moore County. Come out and support your team!

Both of Community High Schools' basketball teams seasons have had a rocky start, but they can only go up from here! At Summertown, each team came up short of a victory, having rough starts but a strong finish in the end. The Boys team almost had a comeback, ending score being 60-65, but the girls had led most of the way and were later defeated in overtime. On the road once more at Loretto, the Vikings fell short 38-68. Senior Grayson Garrette states, "Hopefully we can use this as a learning experience as we progress throughout the season." The girls team almost made another comeback after being outscored 20-3 in the first quarter. The Viking Voice wishes the best of luck to both of the teams as they play out the season!

Basketball season is in full swing! To help the teams pay for this years expenses, both teams came together as one for a joint fundraiser on November 10. The fundraiser was a reverse raffle where 500 tickets were sold for a chance to win $2,500. The night started off with Boston Butt Barbecue meal that was included with the ticket. After the meal, everyone made their way to the gym where the Boys and Girls basketball teams showcased their skills in three point contests, Gotcha, and the boys scrimmaged for a three minute period.
In between events, Dan Reed and Jeff Faulk started calling off ticket numbers who had been eliminated. All hope was not lost though as every twenty-fifth number drawn won a prize. The prizes included a Pioneer Woman crock-pot (as shown on the left), a PlayStation 4, gift cards, and much more! There were twenty three winners, and the final five won cash prizes. The first number drawn won $100, second won $200, third won $300, fourth won $400, and the final ticket remaining won $2,500. The grand prize winner was Taylor Cagle! This night was both fun and exciting, and the basketball teams cannot wait to do it again next year!

The football season concludes this coming Friday night in Chapel Hill. Even though they have been eliminated from the playoff contention, the Vikings can still become the first football team in Community High School history to defeat the Forrest Rockets. They are currently 1-8 overall with an 0-5 district record. The Vikings can keep their heads held high by knocking Forrest out of the playoffs. With a Community win and a Loretto win, the Forrest Rockets would be eliminated from the playoffs. The Vikings have fought hard all year long, and they have a tough task Friday night. Forrest always proves to be a tough task, and the team is looking to pull off the upset. We wish them good luck and congratulations on a great season!

It is tournament time for the Viqueen soccer team. The Viqueens began there district play on Tuesday, October 2. The Viqueens finished second in regular season play, earning themselves a first round bye in the district tournament. They took on the Fayetteville Lady Tigers in a shootout, claiming a 7-5 victory and earning them a region birth. Coach Chris Brothers remarked, “I was very proud of the team and the grit they had. I thought every player on the team played really well and gave their all.”
The Viqueens advanced to the district Championship and played county rival Cascade. The Viqueen team came up short of a district title but did not go down without a fight. Having lost to the Champions twice in regular season play, the purple and gold were determined to get a victory. Coach Brothers stated, “Even though the outcome is not what we wanted, I am proud of how we never quit regardless of the circumstance.”
The Viqueens will face the winner of their opposing district. The time, date, and team will be determined next week.

Seniors Grayson Garrette and Hannah Goodwin represented the Vikings and Viqueens golf team at Lawrenceburg Country Club on October 1st. Both Grayson and Hannah produced low scores which caused both golfers to be in contention. Some of the golfers voiced their displeasure with the course as the course was in relatively rough shape, and the greens had some rough spots on them. But as Gerald R. Ford said, "I know I am getting better at golf because I am hitting fewer spectators."
Hannah Goodwin ended up shooting 83 on the day which was enough to get her qualified for state. Hannah is ecstatic to play next week because this will be the second year in a row that Hannah has participated in the State Tournament. Grayson Garrette became the first Community High School golfer ever to play in the Region Golf Tournament all four years of High School. Grayson played a great round, but he found himself missing the State Tournament by one stroke for the second year in a row. Grayson was a class act and immediately headed over to his copetitor and congratulating him on a great round and wished him good luck in Region. It has been a great golf season once again!

The Community Vikings put up yet another nail biting performance against the Eagleville Eagles on homecoming night. To set the tone, the Vikings received kickoff and shortly after took the lead. The score was 6-0 early in the game, but the Eagles answered back with an interception. The Vikings seemed to play intensively as their momentum proceeded into the second quarter when the Vikings regained the lead. The Vikings, once more, answered yet again with another touchdown which put them into a two point advantage heading into half time. The first half was an exhilarating mixture of turnovers such as insterceptions from both ends. The Vikings began to fall under in the second half, and had a total of 10 points to regain with 9:36 left to go. Community’s Zach Dabbs helped cut the lead by 6 points with an 83 yard rushing touchdown. The Eagles, leading by 4 at this point, managed to run one in and increase their lead to 35-24 with 3:04 left in the game. With little hope left, the Vikings managed to shift the momentum after a forced fumble and a touchdown. Unfortunately, the Vikings could not pull it off and fell short with the final score 35-30.

The Community Viqueens volleyball team has been “killing” it during the preseason and is ready for the rest of the season to be underway. With a jam-packed schedule, the team is looking forward to an intense, successful season. Coach Tiffany Klages Assistant Coach Amanda Lemmons have many high expectations for their team this year as they returns most of her starting players from last year’s district runner-up team. Mrs. Lemmons stated, “Every referee and fan that has watched us play has stated what a top-notch team we have, and I completely agree. We have a lot of talent this year, and I look forward to watching them reach their full potential.”
This year’s team has four seniors who will hopefully lead this team on another long run into the postseason. Haley Bobo, Lexie Cagle, and Anna Katherine Lemmons are returning for their fourth year, while fellow senior Gracie Simmons is returning for her second season as a Viqueen. They are joined by lone junior Lanie Simmons and a large group of sophomore players, and there are no freshmen on the team. The team has a very close bond that helps them succeed in tough situations during intense games. “We really are just one big family,” senior Gracie Simmons said about the team.
The volleyball squad has already started this season off on a high note by winning their annual Volleyjam tournament. They have also defeated Culleoka and Lincoln County, but they fell short against longtime rival Eagleville. They hope to get their revenge when they meet them again on September 20. The Viqueens will also be playing in a tournament at Coffee County called the Southern Slam, and they hope that the competition will help improve their game. They continue to work hard at practice to help them go as far as they can in the postseason.

School is back in session, and the leaves are beginning to change. Which can only mean one thing- it’s soccer season! The Viqueens soccer team is geared up and ready to hit the field. Head Coach Chris Brothers is setting the bar high for the 2018 season, “I expect to finish first in the district and to win our first district championship.”
The Viqueens fell just short of this goal last year as they finished third in the district and claimed the 6-A runner up position. However, the Viqueens look quite different this season as they lost over half of their starting lineup. “We lost a lot of seniors last year, but I think we have a good team. We have a lot of younger players who are learning. I think the team is starting to gel!” Coach Brothers exclaimed.
While the Viqueens' starting lineup and roster is composed of a lot of younger players, they are led this year by six seniors. Coach Brothers has a lot of faith in his senior leadership, “The senior class is wonderful to coach. They always have great attitudes and give 110 percent. It has been a joy to Coach them since they were Freshmen and watch how much they have improved. They are great leaders.”
The Viqueens have started off hot in their district beating Huntland 5-4. Coach Brothers remarked after the game, “The first half we started off slow but we really picked it up in the second half. I think we are going to be really competitive in our district.”
You can catch the Viqueens in action at home on Tuesday, September 4, as they take on Columbia Central. Kickoff is at 6 pm.

On August 17, 2018, the Community Vikings opened up their first football game of the year at home against the Cornersville Bulldogs. This is a tough first task as the Bulldogs are predicted to only lose one game on their way to a projected State Championship. The Vikings started off strong, but could not finish off their drives. This caused the Vikings to fall into a 41-0 deficit at halftime. The Vikings out-gained the Bulldogs in the first half, but were plagued by turnovers. The Vikings did not give up though, as they kept fighting throughout the second half and outscored the Bulldogs 20-0. This brought the final score to 41-20 in favor of Bulldogs. Senior Garrett Gochee when asked about the team's performance on Friday, "We can definitely improve as to playing as a team. I feel like we played a little bit selfish, so maybe this week we can come together and rally to get that dub!" The Vikings play Moore County in Lynchburg Friday Night before being off for a week. The Vikings supporters were in full force on Friday night as there was a huge turnout to cheer on our beloved Vikings! The Vikings would like to thank everyone who was present! On Tuesday, August 7th, Sophomore Seth Cloud found himself in a unique situation on the last hole of a heated golf match at Henry Horton State Park. Hitting his shot a little too far left, Cloud's shot deflected up into a tree and never came down. "I'm not taking a drop... I'm gonna hit it," boldly stated the confident golfer. After a short climb and a few practice swings, Cloud hit an incredible shot, putting himself in position to get back onto the green with his next shot. "I've never seen anything like it!" proclaimed teammate and playing partner Zachary Lohn. "I went to find my ball and hit my shot, and the next thing I knew Seth was in a tree!" What an incredible way to close out the round and give the Vikings a story to remember!
