Introducing our very own Teacher of the Month … drum roll please…
Mr. Tony Davis.
I saw an alien when I was twenty years old.
Travel. My wanderlust keeps me pretty busy!
My wife, myself, my Playstation, and my surfboard.
.
My answer is in the title. I love the students and faculty I work with everyday.
Introducing our very own student of the month …...drum roll please…
My mom has her doctorate. She has always told my sister and I to focus on school. My grandfather told me that people can take your house, your clothes, your money, but they cannot take away your education and mind. I also feel proud of myself when I do good in school.
I want to be in the top five for sure. I also want to keep my GPA a 4.0 all throughout high school and college.
Lately, my free time is consumed by physical therapy and working out in order to build my muscle for soccer season. I also work at the Bell Buckle Cafe and hang out with my friends. I love being outside and doing outdoor activities.
I have my mom, Daphne, and dad, Jason. I also have an older sister named Carlie. I have six dogs and a cat. Technically Paula Canosa is my host sister right now.
I enjoy being able to be a part of FCA, FCCLA, Key Club, soccer, NHS, and cross country. I love being a part of them because they are god clubs that I get to do things for, while being with my friends.

What is life you may ask. Here is my opinion that I wish to express. Well, sometimes life is a deep journey that is full of great mysteries. Some mysteries are already out there in the world waiting to be discovered. New lessons are meant to be learned everyday, whether that lesson has been taught or that lesson is out there waiting for you to find it. Life can also be peaceful; however, there will be moments where the waves may come in rough. Don't despair, don't cry, and don't hesitate. At times, the darkness may commence and swallow you whole. Is it the end? No, it's a whole new beginning. You may reflect on the past. You may turn around, but you need to move forward. There is more to be discovered. Finding your path in life is the treasure of a whole new journey. When you find your path, life will seem crystal clear. A new day brings out new aspirations. Life is also like a canvas; you are the painter. Paint how you want to live your life and not how other individuals want you to live. Remember that life is full of endless journeys, endless creativity, and endless inspirations.

Many individuals were affected when a pesky friend decided to visit the computers of Community High School a week before spring break. TechWalla.com states, "Computers must be activated, meaning the file that contains the virus must be opened, or executed, in order for the virus to come to life. Once activated, viruses look for certain programs to infect, depending on what they've been programmed to do. The one thing that all viruses seem to do well is duplicate themselves within the programs they find, and that is how they spread."
In order to say goodbye to this virus, technicians had to clean out the hard drive of every computer in the school. During this time, the newsletter staff had to take a short break, the cafeteria staff had to use paper and pencil to write students' names down instead of the students punching in their lunch ID into the computer, the teachers had to be tech-free with their teachings, and the online students couldn't work on classes for a while. Unfortunately, some computers were not able to be cleaned successfully, so they had to be thrown out. Thankfully, the computers that survived the cleaning process are back up and running!

On Thursday, March 14th, Dr. Williams gathered student and staff together to talk about the usage of profanity. Profanity or "cuss" words have begun to spring up in the recent decade, and has somewhat became normalized to the general public. Dr Williams made clear that the use can be prevented by using alternatives such as "sugar shack" and "fudge". He also wanted to get across that the use of cuss words are often used to either prove a point or seem "cool" in today's society. There were several videos played, and gave a elaborate depiction on how to stop cussing and how idiotic it makes you look. Overall, Dr. Williams provided the student body with a wonderful power point that will hopefully effect the schools behavior and speech!!

On Tuesday, March 5th, FCA/FCS hosted their annual True Love Waits program. True Love Waits is an international program sponsored by LifeWay Christian Resources. It was originally founded in 1933, and its purpose is to promote abstinence among high school and college students. Also, its purpose is to take a stand against the peer pressure because it can be very demanding. Mr. Luke Bowling was the guest speaker for the program this year. Many are familiar with him because he teaches biology at Community High School. He presented a short devotion, a prayer, and a video clip about the demands of pure pressure and how teens should wait for the right time for true love; it will be worth the wait. Overall, he presented a positive and very moving message among the students that attended the program. Many students took his message to heart and left with words of inspiration. Freshman Aubrie O'Neal stated, "I thought it was a very educational opportunity for many individuals. It was an amazing way to spread cultural beliefs and tips for our generation." FCA/FCS's devotion leader Grayson Garette has added, "I thought Mr. Bowling did a wonderful job helping students to make intentional choices about purity and truth!"
Mr. Bowling shares his message with students about maintaining abstinence until it is the right time for true love.

Chocolate, flowers, cards, and gifts are very sweet. What could be better? The real question is what could be worse? Having a heart broken, getting injured, or any negative conflict are things that no one wants to experience, especially on Valentine's Day. Two seniors from Community High School would like to share their experience about their worst Valentine's Day.
Haley Smotherman- "A guy bought me a candy heart. It said that we're over on the center of it.
Jaydah Curry- " At the skating rink I work at, I had to breakup a fight between two girls that were fighting over a guy. I ended up getting punched in the nose. It was not a good day for me."

We are the Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson (A Spoiler-Free Review)
If the world was ending and you had the power to stop it by pressing a button, would you press it? That was a question asked throughout the book We are the Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson. I recently finished this book not too long ago, and it was so incredibly amazing. It can really make one think for a while. Just by reading the first chapter, I was already obliged to read more. It was definitely an eye-opener. The main protagonist is a boy name Henry, and he is probably the sweetest and most innocent character ever. He reminds me of Charlie from Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky because Henry and Charlie are both a social outcast to the world and have a hard time fitting in with their peers. Every once in a while, Henry has been getting abducted by aliens, which he calls "sluggers" because these creatures reminded Henry of slugs. The sluggers told Henry that he has until January 29, 2016 to live life, and after that, he has to make a decision whether to end the world or not by pressing a button. The book is not focused on a sci-fi setting; it takes place in more of a modern time. Throughout the book, Henry has been coming across obstacles at home, school, with his relationships, and within himself. At home, he has a mother who neglected him, a brother name Charlie with a pregnant girlfriend name Zooey, a father that has left him, and his grandmother who has been suffering with Alzheimer's disease. Henry has been getting bullied at school by a guy name Marcus who has been calling Henry "space boy" because his brother Charlie has told Marcus that Henry has been getting abducted by the sluggers. Marcus and his gang of other dudes have done evil and cruel things to poor Henry. Because Henry has been getting bullied, his grades have been suffering. Henry has an interest in science and discusses throughout the book, however, Henry's teacher, Mrs. Faraci, has noticed his science grade has been slipping. She gave Henry her own personal advice from her childhood because she was bullied often, and she offered Henry extra credit to pull up his grade. Henry later on met a new student at school named Diego who has an interest in art. Henry and Diego developed a special bond that grows throughout the book. Henry also fixed an old bond with a former friend name Audrey. As the story progressed, so did his grief for his boyfriend, Jesse, who has committed suicide. Henry believed that it was him that caused Jesse to kill himself. Throughout the book, he tried to investigate why did take his own life. Henry thought back-and-forth whether to save the world or not and if anyone would be remembered. Do you think Henry will press the button to save the world? Do you think Henry wants to destroy mankind? Find out when you read this book.

For all the singles out there, don't worry! You are appreciated!!! You have a whole day just dedicated to you and being single. Although if you don't have the slightest clue on what to do on Single's Awareness Day, here are some ideas:
---Get your comfy pajamas and turn the TV on
---Treat yourself with chocolates
---Make plans to hang out with other single friends
---Catch up on some extra sleep
---Have a singles party
---Movie marathon starring your celebrity crush
---Go on a shopping spree
---Take a break from your phone and social media
---Change your look
---Buy whatever you like and relish in the fact that you don't have to share
I hope that at least some of these ideas were super helpful! Don't worry about being single, you don't need anyone to make you happy! You will find your special someone one day, hopefully soon! But enjoy the single life while you can!

On Thursday, January 31, some of Community High Schools' Student Council went to the Jostens Renaissance Festival at World Outreach Church. It all started with a dance party with a cool DJ and new friends. The students then listened to guest speakers who had many amazing points on how to make our schools a better positive environment. Then our council got together to reflect on the day, and how we can take what we heard and bring it back to our schools. The day ended with an aux cord battle. Student Council sponsor Mrs. Lemmons said, "The day was an amazing day with student leaders. We did so much self-reflecting on positively and making all students feel noticed. We hope to see what we we learned make a impact on our school."

Your body is a network of amazing things. Your body allows you to endure harsh conditions such as a hard hit from sports or even a slight burn from cooking or other activities. But there are some things that you may not have known about your body.
Your olfactory sensory organs shut down during REM sleep. That means that any smell that would normally provoke a reaction isn’t going to do a thing during sleep. That’s why fire alarms are so important; you can’t smell the smoke and wake up. Interestingly enough, some people do dream that they smell something, but that isn’t due to your nose. It’s something in your subconscious. So while you may think you woke up thanks to the smell of coffee, in reality, you woke up and the first thing you noticed was the coffee scent.
Bio-luminescence is actually a natural by-product of most animals’ metabolisms, but the glow was only proven in humans and captured by scientists on film in 2009. It turns out we are luminescent more or less on a 24-hour cycle and glow brightest in the late afternoon on our cheeks, forehead, and necks. You really are glowing when you’re happy!
A study at the University of Pavia showed that the music you listen to can directly trigger physiological changes that modulate blood pressure, heart rate, and respiration. The cardiovascular system syncs with the tempo and rhythm of the music, and your blood vessels even constrict with the crescendo of a song and relax during decrescendos and silent periods. Your blood pressure also changes to mirror what is going on as you listen. So there may be some truth to the importance of relaxing music as you study.
When you are embarrassed, your body releases adrenaline to better prepare you for a stressful situation. This triggers a response throughout the sympathetic system and dilates your blood vessels. Since the veins and arteries close to the surface of your face have more blood flowing through them than normal, you redden. The blood vessels in the lining of the stomach are similarly close to the surface, making it look like the stomach is blushing too.
We couldn’t live without the billions of microorganisms that reside inside and on our bodies. They carry out important biological functions for us and even work directly with our “human” cells. According to research done at the Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine, we contain 100 times more microbial genes than the genes in our human genome.
Although these facts seem rather weird, they are truly some of the coolest. If you're interested in more facts like these, visit https://www.brainscape.com for more information and other interesting science facts!

Most people would agree that rules are necessary and good; however, sometimes these rules can become outrageous and comical, so we have put together a list of hilarious U.S. laws.
While these laws may seem crazy and certainly unorthodox, we assume that something had to happen for these laws to take effect. Therefore, you can use your imagination to determine what might've gone down to force legislators to pass such outrageous regulations (especially the one about pickles bouncing, I'm just saying).

As a new year approaches, everyone makes their usual resolutions, but it is very unlikely for someone to keep their resolution the whole year. We did a poll and questionnaire on Instagram to see how the students at Community are doing with their resolutions. 57% said that their resolutions are going fantastic, and 43% said that their resolutions are going horrible. It seems that so far our students are holding on to their resolutions as of now. We also asked what some of their resolutions were. One was to be a better person, another was to focus on them more and ignore what people say about them, and the last one is to spend more time with their family. Hopefully everyone can live up to their expectations and resolutions for the new year. We're rooting for you!

As we all know, the government is shut down. I know, big deal, nobody cares in high school, but unfortunately it has affected our cafeteria. We have enough food to serve the students breakfast and lunch for two more weeks. After we run out, we will have to eat out of sack lunches until something is done at the White House. If you are not able to bring a sack lunch, then you will have to either starve, eat others' crumbs off the floor, or live off the snack machine. It is going to be a drastic change, but we will have to make it work for now. We will be updating everyone when we receive more information on this subject.
Just kidding! We have plenty of food for many days to come. :)

Our Vikings and Viqueens's basketball team are quickly approaching success and making their way to triumph as their season is coming to an end. Because they had a season of hard work and determination in order to achieve a victory, a pep rally was held on Tuesday, January 22th. Our cheerleaders, color guard, and band have worked constantly in order to get the crowd pumping for a fun activity and the Viking Battle Cry. Mrs. Bowling, the cheerleader coach, organized an activity where four students from each grade level had to scoot on a mat to the cones and back without the use of hands and feet. This activity was very entertaining and a very close game. The juniors ended up winning the game. The pep rally concluded with everyone's favorite cheer, Viking Battle Cry. Each grade level had the opportunity to win the spirit stick by not only cheering along to the Viking Battle cry, but by also expressing their enthusiasm by standing, clapping, screaming, and by having a lot of fun. Like the activity, juniors also won the spirit stick. Senior Gabby Hunt added, "The activity was pretty fun, but it was also terrifying, but I gave my best."
The sophomores are all smiles after an incredible pep rally.

The year 2018 has been a memorable year of movies, memes, books, trends, and, of course, TV shows. Watching television has been a popular American pastime for many years. Whether you stream your favorite show on Netflix or watch it through satellite or cable, Americans cannot get enough of it. However, not all TV shows were as successful as writers and producers were expecting them to be, so here are some of the worst TV shows that were aired in 2018 with their score on Rotten Tomatoes. These shows are not listed in any particular order.
1. Alex, Inc.- Alex Schuman is a radio journalist, husband, and father of two kids. Alex quits his job and decides to start his own company. While his company is in production, he tries to handle the chaos of his household. Rotten Tomatoes score: 40%
2. Splitting Up Together- This ABC comedy is about a family living in the suburbs. The show often presents humor about kids, marriage, and other things that occur within a typical family. Rotten Tomatoes score: 38%
3. The Four Battle for Stardom- This show is a reality music competition on Fox. It stars celebrities such as Megan Trainor, Charlie Walk, DJ Khaled, and Fergie. The winner of the competition is rewarded a recording contract with Republican Records. Rotten Tomatoes score: 17%
4. Krypton- Krypton is a science fiction drama that is told in the perspective of Superman's grandfather, Seg-El. Seg-El is trying to save his world while trying to regain honor from his parents. Rotten Tomatoes: 59%

Introducing our very own Teacher of the Month … drum roll please…
I have always enjoyed school and can remember playing teacher when I was a small child. Mrs. Carol Burks, my high school business teacher, inspired me to be a teacher. After receiving a business degree from Motlow, I worked in secretarial positions in a private industry. It didn’t take long to decide that wasn’t for me. I went back to college at MTSU and finished my Bachelor’s degree and earned my Master’s degree in business. Later I added my plus thirty hours in ESL and Library Science.
My first seven years in teaching were at Cascade, and then I transferred to Community as a junior high teacher. I spent a total of twenty years in the classroom before I became a Library Media Specialist.
My favorite hobby is traveling and researching new places to go. Family involves a lot of my time. Three of my grandchildren are actively involved in sports, church, and other events. I try to attend as many as their events as I can.
I have two children and four grandchildren- two grandsons ages 13 and 5 and two granddaughters ages 7 and 5.
.
My blood definitely runs purple. My mother graduated from Community; my brother and I graduated from Community; both of my children graduated from Community; my grandson is enrolled at Community Middle; and my granddaughter is enrolled at Community Elementary. The name Community is very appropriate for our school because it is more if a community atmosphere than that of a larger school. We have a great staff and student body. We are very close knit. I enjoy being in a teaching profession because no two days are ever alike.
Introducing our very own student of the month …...drum roll please…
The way I grew up and I wanted to do better than what my family did or how I thought I could do.
Always be loyal and stand for what you love.
Hang out with my friends and help people
Mom, dad, step dad, brother, aunt, my three dogs, and my sixteen cats
The dress up days, it allows us to express who we really are.

This year, our eyes, minds, and ears were blessed by the surprising and odd memes that came forth during the year of 2018. Here are the best ones through the months that changed us forever.
January:
Tide Pods: The Tide Pods epidemic swept the nation as young and easily influenced children and teenagers came upon the absurd trend of eating the packaged laundry detergent.
Kylo Ren Pants: As Star Wars: The Last Jedi hit theaters, people looked forward to the incredible special effects and fight scenes. The surprising part? Everyone could only talk about the pants villain Kylo Ren wore during an intense scene between him and hero Rey. The trend sparked many absurd fashion pictures to spring up as the meme swept the nation.
February:
Precious When You Smile: Artist Bazzi came out with the big hit "Mine," and the song took the country by storm. Memes began to pop up with pictures of all kinds of people and animals shining their pearly whites along with the lyrics to the song as the caption.
Super Bowl Selfie Kid: A new and instant celebrity was introduced to the world by none other than the great Justin Timberlake himself. During his halftime performance, Timberlake paused to snap a selfie with thirteen-year old Ryan McKenna. The kid became a meme basically overnight, and we are now anxiously awaiting who he will snag a selfie with next.
March:
Gru's Plan: Everyone knows and loves the classic movie Despicable Me and all of its sequels and spin-offs, along with all of their lovable characters. In the first movie, hesitant villain Gru decides to devise a plan to steal the moon, and his explanation has led to many hilarious memes to arise on social media.
"Infinity War is the Most Ambitious Crossover in History": As the long awaited third installment of the Avengers movies arrived, it was stated, as the meme suggests, that it was the most ambitious crossover event ever. This then led to many people giving other examples of other crossovers that could easily squash the group in Infinity War.
April:
Lil Hank Williams: Mason Ramsey has now become a household name as his video of Wal-Mart yodeling became viral basically overnight. We all hope and pray that we hear some new music from the little yodeler soon.
Gorls: Once again, Despicable Me gave us another meme to remember in 2018. Gru's accent and pronunciation of the word "girls" gave us new tweets including song lyrics and movie scenes that replaced the word "girls" with "gorls," and you would have to be crazy not to laugh at them.
May:
Yanny vs. Laurel: Who could forget the most epic argument of the year? The Yanny versus Laurel video was one for the history books.
*SPOILER ALERT*
"I Don't Feel So Good": Spiderman's death in Avengers: Infinity War left a large, gaping hole in the hearts of many young fans, mostly girls who think Tom Holland is cute. His parting words became a meme that made his death just a little easier to handle, but not really.
June:
Lebron's Reaction to J.R. Smith's Screwup: Per request (really just Zachary Lohn's request), this viral meme made the cut this year. His reaction is how all of us at the Viking Voice staff feel when Zachary hides the timer again.
*slaps roof of car*: We do not know what this one really means, but some of you readers must have a general idea. Contact us and let us know because we are confused.
July:
Polite Cat: Honestly, I think we all could learn a few tips from this cat. That face is the epitome of what the word "polite" is supposed to mean.
The Aquaman Poster: Come on now, DC Comics. Putting stock images in your movie poster? They should have know that their fans were going to notice the sketchy images of the fish in the background.
August:
Johnny Johnny, Yes Papa: This long forgotten, second-hand nursery rhyme resurfaced in 2018, and no one really understands why. It is a little catchy, but it became more and more annoying as the weeks went on.
Bibble Singing: For all the girls who watched the Barbie movie growing up, this meme brought back many fun memories. Bibble, the lovable character from Fairytopia, became a meme after pictures of him singing popped up all over the Internet.
September:
Moth Loves Lamp: The forbidden love we were all secretly rooting for. If the moth and lamp could make it work, so can all of our love lives.
Weird Flex But OK: This meme basically was a subtle way for people to roast other people on social media. Now, it has basically become a normal term used in teenage conversations.
October:
September 30th vs. October 1st: Not to be confused with the Christmas version, people showcased their "mood" as the highly anticipated spooky season finally began. Our personal favorite: Dwight's head in a pumpkin. Classic.
Let's Get This Bread: This term became the way to motivate people to finish out the year. World Bread Day became such an inspiration to some in the world, they decided to make it into their personal mantra.
November:
Surprised Pikachu: The screenshot from the first season of the original Pokemon series became a classic meme that finished the year on a high note. The picture became a reaction meme for when a person is surprised at something they should have seen coming.
Microwaving A Turkey: Thanksgiving is always a joyous time of the year, and this challenge gave us an even greater month. People calling and texting their relatives about microwaving their turkeys became a source of many laughs.
December:
This moth was kind of a let down on the meme spectrum, but we are hoping it will pick back up as the new year begins!
We all hope to see many other memorable memes rise to fame in this new year!
Per Zachary's request, his favorite pro basketball player's viral meme has been dubbed the top meme for the month of June by the Viking Voice staff.
The surprised Pikachu meme has been a blessing this year, and it perfectly represents how we all feel when we check the fridge for food.
The ravishing picture of the beach was captured by Zander Thurber.

Many students from Community High School were given the opportunity to partake in a four day getaway cruise. The cruise is available to students of Community High School every 2 years. Feedback was positive, and everyone sounded like they had a blast. Sophomore Nick Bridges includes, " Pretty fun. It was very nice!" The majority that went wished that their stay had been extended, others were glad to be back. Sophomore Barrett Peterson did not go on the cruise, but he states, " I wish had gone; others sounded like they had a great time." The trip seems highly recommenced by all, and when the opportunity presents itself, you should take it.

What is Tik Tok and what is this craze all about? Tik Tok is a media app for creating and sharing short videos. This app is for anyone looking to make funny videos lip syncing to funny movie quotes, songs, or funny vines. Tik Tok has been downloaded 80 million times in the US and 800 million times worldwide. One reason that Tik Tok is so popular is that it has a high follower success rate. The more likes and comments you get on a video, the more exposed your video is, ultimately resulting in more fans/followers. When asked why she liked Tik Tok so much, sophomore Lexi Simmons responded with, “I like Tik Tok because I can be goofy and silly and just be me. And it’s a great way to meet new people and be creative with each video.” Many people have admitted to not liking the app, but who knows, maybe Tik Tok is for you.

Just last month, two extraordinary movies made their way into theaters. Both attracting the public and both telling stories that have not been seen in theaters before.
On December 21st the movie Bumblebee came to theaters here in the states. The movie gives more background to the origin of the loss of Bumblebee's voice and as to why Transformers come to Earth. Bumblebee is a tale of perseverance, courage, and overcoming your fears. The movie opens up with the war on Cybertron and all of the transformers doing all they can to escape. Bumblebee is met face-to-face with military forces, the humans unaware of what is going on. As the movie progresses, viewers are introduced to Charlie Watson, a 16 year-old teenage girl who keeps to herself. As she comes in contact with Bumblebee, she realizes that the two of them are rather similar and are going through a phase of wanting to be accepted and appreciated just like those around them. This movie brings forth emotions and reactions that you wouldn't expect, allotting you and your mind a way to more knowledge on Transformers.
On December 21st Aquaman was released in theaters. It tells the story of D.C.'s Justice League member, Aquaman. Arthur Curry, AKA "Aquaman" is a half breed Atlantean whose mother was an Atlantean princess, while his father was a human lighthouse keeper. His mother left Atlantis to be with his father which in turn led to Arthur. At a very young age Arthur's mother had to return to Atlantis to secure the safety of him and his father. As Arthur grew he was taught by a friend of his mother's, Nuidis Vulko, how to properly use his abilities. Years later as an adult Arthur is confronted by warrior princess, Mera, who seeks his helping in stopping his half-brother, King Orm, from starting a war with the surface dwelling humans. Eventually Arthur agrees and sets out with Princess Mera on said quest and in the process he is found by Atlantis to be their true king.
This miraculous movie made a profit of over $1,021,547,915 worldwide with Bumblebee making a measly profit of $367,003,375 in comparison. With this being said, it is perfectly clear that Aquaman takes the gold out of the two films. But don't let us be the ones to decide for you; go to your local theater and check these movies out yourself!

"The Moon"
Midnight charges the room.
But here comes the moon.
Her beams of light are ever so bright.
She gives out a beautiful highlight.
Farewell to darkness that enjoys to play.
Tales of misfortune commences to pray.
The moon appears out of her extensive hiding.
She possesses the darkness with a hint of guiding.
Nature sleeps in everlasting peace.
The moon's nurturing spirit has release.
Beauty lies within this phenomenal sight.
The moon faintly whispers, "Good night."
Dawn wakes up from his slumber ever so mild.
He gives out his call to the wild.
The moon must rest and let morning take part.
You must remember that the moon will always remain in your heart.

Math seems to be one of the hardest subjects for many children throughout the United States. Thankfully, here at Community High School, we have a class just for that! Now it may not be a required class here at the school, but it sure does help in the main classes. Mrs. King's Math RTI is one of a kind! To shed some light on the subject, we asked Mrs. King some questions to give us more insight:
1.) What is the purpose of this class?
Mrs. King: My Algebra 2 RTI class had two main purposes:
a) to improve failing grades
b) to keep a student from the brink of failing (this is where the term "intervention" comes into play)
2.) How do you feel about the class?
K: I am happy with the progress that I've made with some of the students. I have a few that were failing and did not care about grades, that now have more confidence in their work. Some of the students will pass the class for the year now! It's great feeling to save a sinking ship, if you know what I mean.
3.) What do you like about this RTI?
K: Intervention is great because once a student knows that they are back on track in a failing class, they usually stay on track for rest of the quarter. Sometimes we have to restart the intervention process with every quarter, but it's okay. Some students just need to grow in responsibility, and I think Algebra 2 is a hard enough subject that some kids learn those kinds of lessons with the hard work we do.
4.) What do you hope these students will learn from this class?
K: I hope the students assigned to me now realize that their grades won't change unless they are being proactive and turning in completed work. Instead of complaining about how behind they are, or spreading negativity about how they might fail, I hope these students realize that grades are fixable! Learning is an ongoing process and they should never be quit! If they stay positive and stop procrastinating, it's amazing how much will turn around for them.
There you have it folks! Math can truly bring about success in your life if you truly do strive for the very best. Don't allow yourself to slip and always keep a positive attitude! Good luck in your classes and have a Merry Christmas!

Introducing our very own Teacher of the Month … drum roll please…
I had a middle school coach that inspired my decision. I love working with athletes and students. I want each and every one of them to be successful. Teaching the game and putting the pieces together to help them succeed.
I like to play golf. Watching the team members grow as players. It is a sport you can play your whole life.
I like to be outside, doing yard work and I like going to sporting events.
I am married to Shanon Edwards. I have four daughters and six grandchildren.
.
Community High School is a family. We all work together to help each one of us to succeed, students included.
Introducing our very own student of the month …...drum roll please…

What if you could be at two places at once? Too bad that's impossible. That's why we're here to give you both of our insights of the Christmas parade that recently took place on December 2nd in Shelbyville, Tennessee. One of us will tell what it was like to be in the Christmas parade; one of us will tell you what was it like to watch the Christmas parade.
Kera (participant)- I had to perform during the Christmas parade for color guard. Let me tell you, it was a phenomenal experience. Before the parade started, I felt my nerves shaking. But I took a deep breath and gave it my best shot. Performing during the parade was such a surreal experience. Just by watching the crowd smiling and cheering made me feel proud for performing in the parade. As the parade concluded, I was super sweaty and exhausted, but it was honestly all worth it. This was such an experience I would never forget.
Anna Katherine (viewer)- I had the awesome opportunity to watch the parade from the parking lot beside Regions where Mrs. Carla Ralston and her staff from Bookkeeping Plus hosted many Christmas themed activities. We handed out balloons to the children, drank hot chocolate, ate cookies, and mingled with all the people who attended. Once the parade started, we all sat down and bundled up to protect ourselves from the bone-chilling wind. The parade was filled with lots of cool floats, many with the parade's theme displayed: "Elf on the Shelf." Bands performed many Christmas carols, and our own band and color guard did a fantastic job of getting the crowd in the Christmas spirit. Our own Grayson Garrette and Haley Bobo represented our school in the parade as Mr. and Mrs. CHS, and they both had a lot of fun throwing candy out to the crowd. Grayson stated, "We lost all of our candy about twelve minutes into the parade. We didn't even make it out of the square; we were a little too generous!" The parade was a great and fun experience that put the town in the festive and Christmas spirit!

Hot cocoa, Christmas carols, what could be better? On November 30th, Student Council hosted Community High School's inaugural lighting of the Christmas tree. It an opportunity for all of Community High School's students to help decorate the tree. Decorating the tree was just one of the activities. Student were also able to sing Christmas carols. Hot cocoa was provided by the Viking Voice staff. This was the perfect way to start off a frigid Friday morning. Kelsea Kupczyk would like to add, "It was lit."

As you can already tell, we have come a long way since the first issue was published of the Viking Voice, but the road to success always has to start somewhere! The first members of the Viking Voice were led by Mrs. Carol Garrette. They were the visionaries of the Viking Voice. The newsletter started as a one page document has turned into a full website. The purpose of this article is to celebrate the founding members and celebrate the accomplishments and feats we have accomplished as a staff. The issue on the left was published during the inaugural year of the Viking Voice. Thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout all the years as we continually give our best to make the issues to the best of our abilities for you! Thank you for the original Viking Voice members for making it possible for us to be able to keep giving the school news!

Mr. Tocchio is the Agriscience, Small Animal Science, Large Animal Science, and Vet Science teacher, so it came as no surprise when he wanted his RTI to be Wildlife Appreciation. Mr. Tocchio began his class with being safe in tree stands and in safety harnesses, making sure we put them on the right way and the safest way. Two weeks into his RTI, he had brought in some deer meat from a deer that he had killed himself. As of now, Tocchio's class is focusing on elk hunting and wild boar hunting. When asked what wildlife appreciation meant to him, Mr. Tocchio responded with, " It's imperative that people appreciate and understand that we have to preserve our natural resources. I'm only trying to pass on that appreciation to the next generation of conservationists." Pretty soon Mr. Tocchio's class is going to be cooking elk and wild boar chili! So if you smell something delicious coming from that direction, it's most likely his RTI!
Above is Mr. Tocchio's RTI looking at some of the high or average point deer killed in Tennessee.

Does the Illuminati run the government? Is Tupac Shakur still living? Or does the government hide the fact that aliens are real? All of these questions and more are being asked and looked into by Mr. Brown's fifth period class. So far, the class has discussed the Malaysia flight 257, if Tupac Shakar is still alive, and even if Adlolf Hitler is living in Argentina. In this class, each student chooses a topic to discuss as a whole; once chosen, they dive deep into the theory, discovering more and more "facts" that persuade them to chose if they believe if the theory is real or not.
Currently, the class is looking into the theory of if the Alexa, or the Dot, from Amazon is truly ran by the government. There have been countless stories on the internet about the Alexa speaking without being spoken to, about Alexa laughing randomly when it is dead silent, and some instances where Alexa will even turn off the lights! When questioned about the Alexa conspiracy, Senior Will Batson answered, "It's truly amazing. I think it's real and I think that one day the Alexa will take over the world."

National Pickle Day is celebrated annually on November 14th. These crunchy and irresistible snacks have been around for over thousands of years. They date all the way back to 2030 BC. The word "pickle" comes from the dutch term "pekel," which means to salt or brine. It is very important for pickles to be salt or brine when making them. The process of making pickles is called pickling. On average, American's devour almost nine pounds of pickles per person every year. If you end up hitting the road on National Pickle Day, you may notice that people hold...pickle festivals? Yes, pickle festivals exist, especially on National Pickle Day. Stop by the nearest pickle festival to express your love and support for pickles. To this day, American's dress up their burgers, sandwiches, and hot dogs with pickles. Rather it be dill pickles, bread, or sweet pickles, American's continue to love this tasty treat.

Community High School offers a wide variety of RTI classes during 5th period. Cheerleading, which is lead by Coach Bowling, is one of the many offered. The class consists of all of the cheerleading squad and focuses on the student body's enthusiasm for school events along with homecoming. The group mainly studies and practices a plethora of cheers and stunts that will later be performed at a game or a pep-rally. Sophomore Michaela Georgeson states, " We mainly deal with practicing stunts, but one of the larger things that we plan for is Homecoming." The RTI meets every day, so the cheerleaders are hard at work trying to better the environment of our school's "pep". In past years, the halftime performance during the Homecoming game has been outstanding, and this year does not look like it is going to disappoint.

The FCA/FCS has been holding their annual food drive these past few weeks. Not only has food been collected, but items to give to the hurricane victims have been collected. Each item brought in is worth a certain amount of points, which will be converted into points that will count for class points sponsored by Student Council. Items that would be much appreciated are potatoes, muffin mix, paper towels, trash bags, paper products, plastic utensils, and anything else on the list. A list of items that are needed are located on the school website. Please bring in as many items as you can to help out those who aren't as blessed as we are.
The items that are being brought in from the senior class are starting to collect in Ms. Williams' room.

Some happy member of the Community High School Student Council stop and pose for a photo.
On November 10th, 2018, Community High School attended the TASC (Tennessee Association of Student Councils) workshop. Which was hosted at Northside Baptist Church by Siegel High School and Middle School. The program opened up with an exquisite performance by the Siegel Choir. There was not a single dull face in the crowd after the chorus performed a plethora of soundtracks from the movie The Greatest Showman. Following the singing you were greeted by the Siegel Student Council president and were given instructions on where you were supposed to go, but not without some cheers! Participation was outstanding as everyone had escaped their comfort zone for an exciting moment to be a part of. Student Council groups from all over Middle Tennessee gathered in groups to share their ideas to promote a better school environment. A broad selection of ideas ranged from fundraisers and out of school activities such as community service. Everyone had a chance to share ideas in smaller groups which would eventually end up being spread to their home councils. After everyone was finished, they were greeted by motivational speaker, songwriter, and veteran, Sal Gonzalez . Many were brought to tears by his story and were warmed by his soothing voice. All in all, it was a special moment for anyone to be a part of, advisor or pupil, and on my behalf, the schools that attended will not have a bland idea to bring back! It is safe to say Middle Tennessee Student Councils were granted extraordinary ideas at the workshop and many schools will not be the same for the better!

At the beginning of the new nine weeks, Mrs. Friedman, career and technical education teacher, bravely took on the task of creating a new RTI class - scrap booking. She instructs students and gives them the tools and the platform to be creative in a unique way. "Scrap booking gives our students an opportunity to create and design in a way they would not be able to in a normal classroom," states Mrs. Friedman. A huge thank you goes out to Mrs. Friedman for her commitment to her students, and we can't wait to see their ingenuity in what they produce!

We are all familiar with the picture day nostalgia that comes the night before picture day as we try on multiple outfits and practice our smiles in the mirror. It can be quite a stressful experience, and we want to make sure that you come prepared! Here is list of “do’s” and “don’ts” sure to impress your future kids and grandkids and leave that cute boy or girl that sits next to you in English impressed!
2. Show all your teeth- It’s important for significant others to know your teeth alignment to see what their future children’s teeth will look like.
3. Avoid looking at the Camera- Your eyes are the key to your soul.
4. Ignore the photographer- They are plotting against you.
1. Brush your hair- The natural bed head look is best.
2. Wear matching clothes- Who wants to stick the status quo?
3. Brush your teeth- Whitening is overrated.
4. Smile- It’s a trick.
We’re just kidding! Do the exact opposite as the list, and you will be ready for your close up!

The Scoop into Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson:
A Spoiler Free Review
I read Speak for my school's book club. This book has been on my "to be read list" for a very long time because I had heard so many wonderful reviews about it. I was thrilled when I figured out that we were going to read this book. The story is told in the eyes of a girl named Melinda Sordino. Melinda is starting her first year of high school, and it is already off to a rough start. Before she even started school, an incident happened at a party she got invited to by a bunch of cheerleaders. That incident affects not only how Melinda lives her school life but also her home life. She claims that she is doomed to be a social outcast at her school, and she is afraid to speak about what happened at the party. The author continuously shows flashbacks throughout the novel of Melinda at the party. Besides her own emotions, Melinda also has to deal with her ex-best friend, cruel teachers, overwhelming amounts of school work, and other high school drama. She feels as if she is trapped in her own mind and that her silence is a scream for help. The thing that tends to help Melinda cope is her art project that she has to complete by the end of the year. All she has to do is to draw or to construct a real life model of a tree. The tree gives her guidance throughout her freshmen year, and her compassionate art teacher, who has shaped Melinda as a person, made her realize that the tree was within her all along. The novel has been beautifully written; it hit me in the heart big time. It is such a powerful story. Reading this has been nothing but a train wreck of mixed emotions; I admire books that make me go through that because it makes me feel like I was really there in the book. The author did an excellent job in expressing Melinda's character and Melinda's inspirational story. Laurie Halse Anderson has changed the way at how I view people in society. It made me realize that everyone has a story to tell no matter how it's being told, and that's what makes life worth living. This novel ended up becoming one of my new favorites, and it is currently sitting on my bookshelf right now!

It is finally that time of year again! Halloween is over and stores are starting to present all of the new Christmas inflatables and gifts that are soon to be flying off the shelves. There is only one minor problem... WHAT ABOUT THANKSGIVING? You know the holiday that remembers when the Pilgrims and Indians came together to eat together for the first time. This is one of the four major holidays, but we seem to try and get it out of the way as fast as we can so that we can celebrate Christmas. Thanksgiving Do not get me wrong I love Christmas as much as the next person, but I also cherish Thanksgiving as well. This story is not dedicated to this, but about the special Thanksgiving traditions that our students have with their families!
The Viking Voice Staff asked students and a teacher at our school what their favorite Thanksgiving Traditions are, and we picked a few to share with our loyal readers. Senior Gracie Perryman said that she loves to drink hot chocolate with her aunt Cathy. Senior Stone Ralston stated that he enjoys spending time with family and also eating a lot of food! Sophomore Zander Thurber agrees with Stone as he says that his family make the best food he has ever tasted! Freshman English teacher Mr. Brown laughingly answered, "Mine is that we all try to stay conscious to watch the football games while fighting off a food coma."
As you can see, we have different personalities at Community High School, but that is what makes us unique! Remember to enjoy Thanksgiving and eat as much as you can! Happy Thanksgiving from the Viking Voice Newsletter Staff!

If one were to walk into Miss Williams' room during second lunch, they would be greeted with the sound of laughter, the smell of Sharpies, and the feeling of utter chaos. Student Council has been using fifth period as a chance to get some very small but important stuff completed. They make posters for all the upcoming events, such as Tree Topper Day, Sleigh the Day, and Basketball Homecoming dress-up days. Be sure to look for these awesome posters! Also, the council has been hard at work preparing for homecoming, which is the week of December 3rd through the 7th. They have been printing programs, tying together flowers, and ordering lots of decorations. The officers, sponsors, and representatives thoroughly enjoy having this time to work on things that make our school exciting. Senior historian Jaydah Curry stated, "I am really glad we have this period. I have to work on the scrapbook, and it gives me a chance to get the input of others while I begin putting it together." Make sure you keep up with all the upcoming events Student Council has been planning by looking out for posters, checking the school website, and talking to members of the council!

The WAIT is almost over! In less than two weeks, Community High School’s Smokestack Theatre Group will be producing Frederick Knott’s Wait Until Dark. Wait Until Dark is a suspenseful play full of many twists and turns that will have you on the edge of your seat. The cast and crew has worked very hard these last six weeks to ensure that the audience gets to experience the full effects written in the script. To give an inside point of view, we asked Blake Sabin, who is playing the role of Carlino in the play. “Well, in my experience with Smokestack, this is probably the most complicated play I've done. It's not that the play is difficult, it's that aspects of the production itself are complicated to handle. All in all, I believe that this play will go down as the best we have ever done,” states Sabin.
Mark your calendars for November 9th and 10th here at Community to watch the production of Wait Until Dark at seven o’clock..we can’t wait until dark.
Sargent Carlino silently awaits Mike as he rummages thorugh the bedroom, looking for a key.
Susy draws back with fear as Mike begins to interrogate her about the doll.

There are many different RTI choices for students to choose for their 5th period. They range all the way from board games to prom committee. One of the new RTI options is film studies with Mr. Pruitt. In this RTI students get the opportunity to observe movies and films to learn filming tactics and skills to make the best film possible. Mr. Pruitt remarked on his RTI, "We have a very diverse group of students which adds good input to the discussion of our class." If you are interested in learning about film, this is definitely the class for you, but even if you aren't, you might just find a new hobby if you join the class.
Students are currently watching and studying The Revenant to learn about cinematography.

On Friday, October 26th, students that are in Honors English had the opportunity to visit the Chamber Theatre in Nashville. Students that attended the trip had the chance to enjoy five short plays that were part of Chamber Theatre's ENCORE collection. The plays that were performed were based on famous stories from a variety of authors. The following short plays were performed: "The Raven" and "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allen Poe, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving, "The Monkey's Paw" by W.W. Jacobs, "The Necklace" by Guy de Maupassant, and "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" by Mark Twain. Each play had fun, unforgettable characters that were unique in their own ways. Everyone there seemed to enjoy seeing literature come to life right in front of their eyes. Sophomore Lexi Evans states, "I thought the plays were very educational and informative." Mrs. Lemmons added, "It doesn't matter how many times I read or see 'The Necklace' because it's always been one of my favorites."

Tim Burton is the man behind all of the creepy movies that we know and love. Mr. Burton’s creations include: The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Alice in Wonderland, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Frankenweenie, Sweeney Todd and many more. Tim Burton must have had some type of weird inspiration for creating these delightfully creepy characters. It turns out, Burton had a strange childhood. His parents had walled up his windows and only gave him a small space to see the outside world. Even before then he had a passion for the dark and gothic, his inspirations behind his art and movies were actually artists themselves; Mark Ryden, Ray Ceasar, Joe Soren, Edward Gorey, and Alan Moore. These artists all have a tinge of surrealism to their works of art, to which Burton must’ve taken a liking to. After helping to direct Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, Mr. Burton created his first film Frankenweenie in honor of the dog he had as a child, Pepe. Tim Burton’s career then flew off as an animator for Disney. To this day Mr. Burton continues to make or direct the amazing movies that we all know today.
" I mean, I guess I like his movies?"
---Joshua Hensel, Sophomore
"Tim B. is amazing!!! I loooovvvvveeeee him!!! His movies have meaning to them, and it blew my mind when I realized that his movies were about his life, only backwards!"
---Jaida Ragland, Sophomore
"I really admire his style of directing and creating his movies. "
--- Kera Reynolds, Junior
"I like how he incorporates music into his movies and uses dark imagery. But I think his movies are a tad overrated."
--- Mr. Brown, English teacher

Mr. Bratcher wanted to start this class because he believes that individuals should be exposed to the different styles and uniqueness of a board game. "I believe that everyone is having fun in my RTI at the moment," Mr. Bratcher stated. "It's so exciting to see so many young people in my class enjoying classic board games."

Dear Bugs,
I think I like someone, and it seems like he likes me too, but I hear from one of my friends that he tried to kiss her. Bugs, I could really use some advice!
Sincerely,
Discouraged
Dear discouraged,
My advice to you is to move on. Clearly this boy isn't worth your time. If he really likes you then he wouldn't do such a thing. Clearly, this is someone who isn't considerate of others' feelings. You are too good to be putting yourself in that situation. So, my final verdict is to drop him. There is no use putting yourself in harm's way. It's better to move on and allow yourself the freedom to be happy. Live for yourself, not others!
Sincerely,
Bugs Bunny

We all know that October is the month for Breast Cancer Awareness, Halloween, and spooky fun, but did you know that it's also the month for artist to show their creative side in what is known as Inktober. Inktober is October, but with drawings! Each day in October has a prompt in which an artist, or anyone who is participating, must draw using only pen. This task is not easy, but it is very fun and challenges the artist's precision and concentration. It's not too late to join the fun; but it may take you a bit to get caught up, but it'll be totally worth it! Have fun and happy drawing!

"The Miracle of Life"
In the earth's womb,
there lies purity.
One will show soon its innocence.
Its golden soul will soon blossom.
Beauty will be seen
because beauty was born to shine.
Life is beginning,
for its first breath has been take.
It inhales and exhales air of inspiration.
A giggle can be heard even in the silence
and for miles on.
Its young spirit and innocent nature
is what makes it so beautiful.
It's not until long before that spirit starts to fall.
It starts to whistle to its own tune with
the whistling of the wind.
The crispy air sings back its melody.
It suddenly chokes and forms a lump.
The beat isn't strong,
and soon it starts to slow.
Passing time appears, and slumber time begins.
It lies in its own death bed.
It begins to fade,
but beauty can still be seen underneath
through its wrinkles of life adventures.
Death can be seen through the shadows.
One last kiss has been given.
Its eyes slowly shut.
It now lives forever
in the castle in the sky.
New colors have been painted.
A new soul is ready to blossom.
Something so worthy
will soon be born.
It's a whole new beginning
in the miracle of life.

It's finally spooky season!!!! Besides Christmas, Halloween is the most festive time of the year. Everyone gets out their decorations, costumes, and candy. Many people like to participate in activities such as going to haunted houses, watching scary movies, going trick or treating, and much more. The Viking Voice recently did a poll on our Instagram (@vikingvoicechs) to see what are some of everyone's favorite things to do during spooky season. The poll outcomes are shown below:

What do you car a pig that does karate? A pork chop!

On September 29th a ceremony was held at our VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) post in Shelbyville. Post 5019 held what is known as The Missing Man ceremony. This ceremony takes place in order to honor the soldiers from all five branches of the military that are labelled as POW/MIA. At the front of the hall sat a circular table set for six. The six places represent the five armed services (Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard) and civilians. The ceremony started with six members of the Rolling Thunder Tennessee chapter 1 biker group. They each held a hat that represented one of the branches. They all marched around the table before setting each hat on one of the plates let out. They then turned over a glass set by each plate before stepping away from the table and marching back. Mrs. Brenda Normandia of Rolling Thunder, Inc stood afront the table and explained the importance of each item upon it. Here is an excerpt from the Missing Man Ceremony explaining the symbolism of the table at what is set upon it.
The table is round – to show our everlasting concern.
The cloth is white – symbolizing the purity of their motives when answering the call to serve.
The single red rose reminds us of the lives of these Americans….and their loved ones and friends who keep the faith, while seeking answers.
The yellow ribbon symbolizes our continued uncertainty, hope for their return and determination to account for them.
A slice of lemon reminds us of their bitter fate, captured and missing in a foreign land.
A pinch of salt symbolizes the tears of our missing and their families – who long for answers after decades of uncertainty.
The lighted candle reflects our hope for their return – alive or dead.
The Bible represents the strength gained through faith to sustain us and those lost from our country, founded as one nation under God.
The glass is inverted – to symbolize their inability to share a toast.
The chairs are empty – they are missing
Afterwards a 'roll call’ was held where Lance Corporal Descent of Rolling Thunder, Inc Chapter 1 read off the numbers of soldiers from WWI, WWII, the Korean War and the war in Vietnam listed as MIA and/ or POW. Along with Rolling Thunder, there were many parties that attended the ceremony. Even our Sheriff came to show his support. Overall the Missing man ceremony was a huge success. Post 5019 and Rolling Thunder, Inc Chapter 1 should be appreciated for their efforts.

To many, fall is one of the best times of the year. Fall brings new weather, new foods, new fashion, and many other new things. One thing that comes with fall is the flu. YUCK! To my knowledge, I don't know a single person who enjoys the flu. If you start preparing for the flu early, you many prevent yourself from the awful sickness of the flu before the cases start coming out.
1. Avoid close contact with others. Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.
2. Wash your hands really well multiple times a day. Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
3. Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze. It may prevent those around you from getting sick. Flu and other serious respiratory illnesses, like respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), whooping cough, and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), are spread by cough, sneezing, or unclean hands.
4. Practice good health habits. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home, work or school, especially when someone is ill. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.
5. Stay home when you are sick. If possible, stay home from work, school, and errands when you are sick. This will help prevent spreading your illness to others.
6. Avoid touching your eyes, mouth or nose. Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth.
7. The flu shot many work for some people, but it may not work for others. If you follow the prevention steps, you can prevent the flu without having to get the shot.

I want to be able to provide for my own future and make sure my parents don’t have to pay my way and put themselves in debt. Therefore if I work hard, hopefully I’ll be able to put myself through college.
The staff of the Viking Voice is amazing. I missed spending time with everyone and collaborating. It’s by far one of the greatest teams I have been a part of and I don’t plan on leaving again.
I usually spend my time drawing or writing. I listen to music a lot as well. I don’t get to go out very often, but when I get the chance I like to go to the drive in theater.
I have my mother and father, an older brother and sister, four cats, three dogs, two chickens, four goats, four horses, and a duck. My family basically owns a petting zoo.
I suppose I like the tight knit community we have here. Majority know each other in some way, by face or name. Something of the kind. It’s nice in a sense to know everyone around you. Helps with my anxiety I guess lol.

Featuring our student of the month !!! Jewel Hewitt !!!!
I was very confused about what I wanted to do. I went to MTSU for two years without a major. My English professor asked me if I wanted to be a teacher, and I laughed at him. I started to think about it, and I contacted a couple of my former teachers. They let me observe a few classes, and the rest is history.
The best part about teaching is the opportunity to make a difference. To me, literature is a great way to connect with other people. I love teaching English because it gives me a platform to make that connection and promote reading and writing at the same time. It’s a win-win.
Book Club is really just the first step to world domination. It isn’t a responsibility. It is a movement.
Outside of school, I spent as much time with my wife and daughter as I can. I also enjoy seeing friends and family. I may or may not play way too much Fortnite. Perspective is everything.
My wife is a kindergarten teacher. My daughter is the coolest one year old ever. My dog is actually just a four legged human. My Keurig is an honorary family member. I absolutely love my little family!
I think that my favorite part of Community is how tight-knit we are as a school. I feel that I am a part of the best faculty, and I also get to work with the best students. I also happen to look pretty cool in purple, and I am a gangster that also happens to love gold.

Dear Bugs,
Why does my brother feel the need to date every freshman in high school?
Sincerely,
Concerned Sister
Dear Concerned Sister,
That one's tricky. I'm no doctor, but your brother may be going through something that is causing him to act like this. All I can say is be there for him. He may feel like he doesn't have a strong female figure in his life, so he dates to try and fill that emptiness. Try and talk to him about what's going on and see if you two can come to a resolution together. I wish you all the luck in the world!
Sincerely,
Bugs Bunny

"The Lily"
Arise from your slumber. Dawn is beginning.
Fear not, my love. Do not despair, my love.
It's just the alluring colors being painted on a new canvas.
Drop, drop, drop of the morning dew. You begin to refurbish.
Nature gives birth to a new day.
You drift through the breeze. You're so beautiful and pure.
You're so innocent, playful, and carefree.
Love, you're precious and righteous; everything about you is gold.
Ominous skies start to cast.
Passing time commences.
Night starts to fall, and the day begins to perish.
A display of gratitude is reveled through your eyes.
Hush, hush one last breath is taken.
The night continues to mature, but you stay forever pure
as you stare down into the earth.

Pom poms shook, and the adrenaline was through the roof. On Friday, August 17th, everyone was excited for the first home football game against Cornersville. Students were definitely thrilled about the pep rally before the game.
For the pep rally, each class had its own theme. For instance, the freshmen dressed up like hipsters, and the juniors dressed in black. Dressing up showed your class and school spirit.
Each class competed with each other for class points. The way they earned points was by mini relay racing with one boy and one girl from each grade. Class sponsors from each class also competed in the second relay race.
The spirit stick competition gave each class the opportunity to compete for even more points. Students had to scream "The Viking Battle Cry" as loud as they could. The sophomore class received the spirit stick.
Community High School's cheerleader coach, Mrs. Bowling, exclaimed, "Out of all the pep rallies, this was the best one yet." Everyone who participated in the pep rally seemed to have had a blast and was excited for the football game to commence.
The football players are all smiles before the game.

I want to go to college and have a successful career. I try my best because I want to live a happy, successful life.
I wanted to make the Sophomore class better than it was previously. I wanted to prove that you don’t have to be popular to make a difference.
I sleep a lot. I listen to a lot of music. My favorites at the moment are: Marilyn Manson, Panic! At The Disco, and Cardi B.
I live with my mom and my dog Baby. I have two brothers and two sisters. I consider all of my friends as family.
I really love hanging out with my friends. I am involved in the Drama department and Student Art League. I just love the arts, and Community has an outstanding Fine Arts department.

Hang on tight! We have a new school year underway, and the events have already begun! From seeing the summer production of To Kill a Mockingbird to catching a great football game in the new bleachers to seeing the volleyball team win the VolleyJam to great golf and girls soccer games, this year has been quick to hit the ground. We had one of the most spirited pep rallies ever already this year! The student council has worked hard this summer to help set an engaging and exciting list of events for this fall. I encourage everyone to start the year strong in the classroom, on the fields, on the stage, or wherever you can get engaged. Do not sit idle on the sideline. Get involved! There are opportunities all around you. Be a part of what makes Community High School the Best School………………………………….PERIOD!

Dear Bugs,
I’m new here at Community High, and I don’t seem to be making very many friends. How can I start making friends when everyone already has them?
- The New Kid
Dear The New Kid,
Being new to a school is never easy; you're still learning your way, and you may still be really shy. But that's okay! I advise for you to just be yourself! Don't let the fears of high school get in the way of you making new friends! If someone in one of your classes begins to talk to you, try and make friends with them! People don't bite, I think. If you just ease into conversations with people, it'll become easier to make friends overall. I promise high school, especially Community, isn't scary! You'll do great!
Sincerely,
Dr. Bugs
Dear Bugs,
I really like this guy in my last period class, and I don’t know what to do. He is really shy, and we just started having actual conversations, but I don’t want to scare him away. So what do I do?
-Flustered Girl
Dear Flustered Girl,
Don't be scared to be yourself. When you two are talking, most definitely listen to one another; communication is the best aspect to have in a blossoming relationship. Not only that, but be open with him! Never be scared to bring up topics that allow you both to express the sides of you that you may have not known before. I know you'll figure this out, you're a smart carrot! Just stay true to who you are and never let your mind over-stomp your heart!
Sincerely,
Dr. Bugs
Dear Bugs,
My best friend seems to be leaving me out when she hangs out with her other friends. This has been going on for some time, and I don’t know what to do. Can you please help?
-Unsure
Dear Unsure,
Talk to her about this problem privately. Feeling left out isn't the best feeling in the world; it hurts more than people think, but you shouldn't let that get to you. The best advice I can give is just tell her how it hurts when she does that, and ask her to please include you more, considering you two are best friends. Don't let the small things in life get you down, okay?
Sincerely,
Dr. Bugs

Do you like to support your Vikings and Viqueens? Do you like free stuff? Well, then you’re in luck because we have something that you’ll like! Student Council has come up with Community Viking Spirit Voucher Cards. These are small cards about the size of a credit card that can fit in your wallet. There are small vikings that can be hole punched at every home game that you attend. For every four home games that you attend, you'll receive something free from the concessions stand. The items you get are still being determined at this time. Everyone should have been given a voucher at their class meeting that took place on August 10. We hope that you will take advantage of this awesome opportunity to be able to support our Vikings and Viqueens and win cool prizes!

On August 3 at 5:45 am, the sun rose just like any other day. However, this sunrise was special for the class of 2019. It marked the beginning of the end of a journey, and symbolized the transformation of a rising senior class to a senior class. Senior Anna Katherine Lemmons remarked, “The sunrise was special because we haven’t seen any other class do anything like it.”
The senior class president, Samantha Mitchem, proposed the idea of a senior sunrise in May to the class of 2019. Mitchem later commented, “I really wanted to do something that had never been done before.”
As the dark sky began to be illuminated by the rising sun, the final chapter for the class of 2019 had begun. The class spent the morning together celebrating with coffee, donuts, and cornhole tournaments. Senior Devin Bousum reflected on the morning, “The senior sunrise was a great experience that gave us a way to kick off a great last year.”
Along with the alluring of coffee and donuts, Senior Hannah Goodwin felt, “The best part of the senior sunrise was that we were together. I think the fact that our class chooses to be together is what makes us really special.”
Despite the very early morning, there were thirty plus senior class members in attendance. Mitchem was surprised by the turnout, “I honestly didn’t expect many people to show up because it was so early. I thought it went well. It was nice to see everyone come together to begin our final chapter.”
Just like the sun rose on the senior class, it will set. The senior class plans to celebrate the end of their 13 years journey together in May. From sunrise to sunset, the class of 2019 will be together.
