Vignayanandam is a postdoctoral researcher (simulation neuroscientist) in Circuits team at Blue Brain Project, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (BBP-EPFL). He pursued his Ph.D. in Computational Neuroscience at Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-Madras). He was the team leader of Basal ganglia group at Computational Neuroscience Lab, IIT-Madras. He started his career in Systems Biology at University of Hyderabad and now pursuing his career in Systems Neuroscience. During his role as a team leader at IIT-Madras, his team worked on two aspects of Parkinson’s disease: the causes of the pathogenesis (Ph.D. thesis) and effective management of the disease symptoms. The objective of the team is to develop an integrative theory of neurodegenerative pathology and develop a patient-specific computational framework for testing different therapeutics ranging from drugs to surgical procedures such as deep brain stimulation. He is a member of national and international neuroscience societies such as OCNS, SfN, ACCS.
