Seminars, Sessions, and Scope of Work

Here is a list of seminars, sessions, webinars, and talks that I give on a regular basis (both virtually and face to face):

NEW: ISTE Integration, School Innovation, and You!

Want to learn how to get started with ISTE standards integration at your school? This is the session for you! We'll cover the "why" behind the ISTE standards, the "how" of implementing the ISTE standards, and how you can start your own ISTE integration plan! This session energizes administrators to reflect on their roles as school leaders so that they can cultivate ISTE standards in their school environments, and see how these standards can positively impact schools. And, administrators will begin to build an integration plan, evaluate progress on the strategic plan, make course corrections, measure impact and scale effective approaches for using technology to transform learning.

NEW: So, You Want To Be An Instructional Coach?

Instructional coach...what exactly does that title mean? What does an instructional coach actually do? What are expectations of the role? And, how does an instructional coach use educational technology with teachers and administrators in the building? In this session, we’ll be demystifying the role of the instructional coach and discussing our pathways to coaching current and pre-service teachers, what our typical day-to-day looks like, the importance of technology integration in our roles, and how we use educational technology to elevate teaching, learning, and curriculum design. We just can’t use edtech for edtech sake! We will also discuss the importance of knowing your "why" before you get started with edtech.

Teaching Students to Research in Mathematics

It's time to ditch the math classrooms of yesteryear. Rows of desks, rote memorization, and traditional assessments are out--problem-based instruction and problem-based learning is in! Consider upgrading your assessment strategies with a math research assessment. In this session, we will explore what a math research assessment is, how to introduce it to your students, their impact on academic content knowledge, and guiding students through this process.

Innovative Math Support (For Tutors)

As a tutor, you have a very important job in supporting students with topics they may be struggling in. Because of this, it's important to continue to learn effective and innovative tutoring strategies that not only help your students, but also help you get better at your craft. In this session you'll learn about how to build healthy relationships with your students, the importance of productive struggle in building math confidence, effective teaching practices for tutors, and how to continue your learning on innovative math support.

Equity in Educational Technology

In education we need to be committed to ensuring our efforts reflect the needs of our classrooms and schools, as well as equity and inclusion. How can we leverage technology to reach our goals? Come learn with us on how to navigate this landscape and how it can be possible. Attendees will learn about the intersectionality of equity and educational technology. New ideas and strategies that attendees will learn include vetting digital platforms and resources through an anti-racist lens, what an educator should look for when searching for equitable technology and technology platforms, the potential dangers of not checking a resource before you give it to students, the importance of student choice and voice, and the importance of elevating women and people of color in curriculum, among others.

Culturally Responsive STEM Education

It has always been paramount for us to create classrooms that are culturally responsive, but the unfortunate truth is that many of us are just beginning in this journey to unpack bias and look at our curriculum and instructional practices through an anti-racist lens. Now more than ever, we need to intentionally create classroom environments that promote and practice equity, anti-racist pedagogy, and safe spaces for our students to grow and flourish. Today is that day--let's jump in and learn what it looks like on a tactical level!

Using Data to Enhance Tough Conversations With Families

A student struggles with basic factoring but wants to skip from Algebra 2 to AP Calculus. Another student struggles with study skills yet wants to take an advanced English class. Communicating glows, grows, and potential challenges with families can be difficult, but with the use of tech tools and data these conversations can go more smoothly. In this session, we'll talk about the importance of data in schools and how we can utilize data to create innovative learning experiences for students, as well as transformative family-school meetings.

X, Y, and Devices: Using Technology To Create Equity in K-12 Mathematics Classrooms

Technology integration? In a math classroom? Yes, it’s completely possible! Come learn (and create!) with us on how technology can help provide an academically safe environment for mathematics teaching and learning — environments where students feel secure and confident in engaging with one another, their teachers and math! During this session we'll discover what an inclusive math classroom is, what an inclusive math classroom looks like, and ways that we can innovate our instructional strategies so that we are meeting all of our students where they are.
