Student-Led Indigenous School Spirit & Logo Design
— This project puts students at the centre of the creative process, giving them the opportunity to design a logo that reflects what makes them proud of their school and happy to be part of their community. Through guided Indigenous art and design activities, students choose the imagery, symbols and elements that they feel represent their school, and I then refine and finalize their concept with the student designers’ approval. I create a screen from the final design and return to the school to teach students and staff how to screen print their own shirts. The school keeps the screen, giving them the ability to continue creating their own apparel, artwork and fundraising products long after the project is finished. For me, the most important part is that the students don’t simply receive a logo—I’m giving them ownership of their visual identity and the skills and tools to keep creating with it.
