Alloying and pre-deformation effects on the aging response of FCC-based Co1.5CrFeNi1.5 high entropy alloys with varying Ti and Al contents

The thesis investigates the influence of alloying (aluminium and titanium) and pre-deformation on precipitation hardening and microstructural evolution of non-equiatomic CoCrFeNi-based high entropy alloys (HEAs) at high temperatures. The Al/Ti ratio alters the morphology of secondary phases, while lattice distortion contributes to strengthening. Ti addition increases hardness and accelerates aging kinetics, while Al improves thermal stability. TEM analysis reveals uniformly distributed L12 precipitates in Al02Ti03 and Ti05 HEAs and non-uniformly dispersed B2 precipitates in Al05 alloy. Pre-deformation enhances age-hardening response and increases precipitate density. Cellular precipitates influence mechanical behaviour, such as a drop in hardness after peak-aged conditions.

Outcome: Four peer-reviewed articles have been published, and two additional articles are currently under review based on the Ph.D. work.

Date of Ph.D. award: 17/08/2021
