Career, College & Tutoring
Paper Tutoring delivers instruction-first, intervention-level academic support designed for continuous learning and meaningful grade-level growth. Sponsored by Montebello Unified School District (MUSD), this evidence-based tutoring program operates at no cost to local families and is fully aligned with daily classroom curriculum pacing.
The Experience: Students meet in small, highly focused learning pods (1:1 to 3:1 student-to-tutor ratio) multiple times per week for intensive 30-to-45-minute sessions.
Tutor Consistency: To avoid re-diagnosing student needs, your child will work with the exact same dedicated, professional tutor across multiple weeks to build academic trust and relational continuity.
How to Log In: Students can access live support 24/7 using their official MUSD email credentials. Visit paper.co/, click "Login," and select Vail High School from the district school dropdown menu.
On-Campus Assistance: If your student experiences technical challenges or needs help getting started on the platform, please have them visit Mr. Lopez on campus for direct, one-on-one setup guidance.
UPchieve is an educational technology nonprofit providing 100% free online tutoring and college advancement support to middle school and high school students in the U.S. This entirely free resource contains no hidden subscriptions, trial periods, or credit card requirements.

How it Works: Students log into their account, choose the specific subject they need help with, and get paired with a live volunteer coach within 5 to 10 minutes.
Virtual Classroom Tools: The secure digital space features an interactive online whiteboard, a collaborative document editor, and standard text messaging with optional voice chat. No video cameras are used, protecting student privacy.
Subjects Covered: Support ranges from core homework help in math and science (including AP courses) to specialized SAT/ACT test preparation and comprehensive college counseling (including application assistance and financial aid navigation).

The FAFSA helps determine your eligibility for financial aid, including federal grants, work-study opportunities, and student loans. You may qualify for assistance even if you're not sure your family will be eligible.
Seniors planning to attend college or an eligible career or trade school between July 1, 2027, and June 30, 2028, can complete the 2027–2028 FAFSA now.
Get started: Complete the FAFSA at the official website.
It's free! Never pay a fee to submit the FAFSA.
Create an account: Students and any required contributors, such as a parent, may need their own StudentAid.gov accounts.
Apply early: Some financial aid programs have limited funding or earlier deadlines.
Review your results: After your application is processed, check your FAFSA Submission Summary and follow up with the colleges you selected.
You don't have to figure everything out on your own! Visit the Vail High School Community Schools office for help finding resources and getting started. You can also contact the financial aid office at the college you plan to attend.
Important: Students who are not eligible to complete the FAFSA may have other options, including the California Dream Act Application, depending on their circumstances.
