Burns Post 388 Auxiliary is dedicated to the support of veterans and to being active in our community. All members of the auxiliary are relatives of those that have served in overseas combat (Click here to find out if you are eligible to join). We have many programs that we sponsor and are involved in many activities all working toward these goals. Here is a listing of some of the programs and activities we support.
Americanism – Through patriotic education, citizenship education, and flag etiquette demonstrations, we hope to foster the love of country within our communities.
Buddy Poppy – The auxiliary aids the VFW in distributing the Buddy Poppies in our annual poppy drive to help disabled veterans on the Friday before Memorial Day each year.
Hospital – The auxiliary, through unselfishly giving of time, energy, love and devotion, thousands of veterans have cheered, comforted, love and thanked for the dedicated service to us when it was needed.
VFW National Scholarships – Several scholarships are available to students through VFW programs including: Patriot’s Pen, Patriotic Art, and Voice of Democracy. There are also department scholarships such as the Lilian Campbell medical and Frank W. Brown scholarships.
Veterans and Family Support – We assist veterans and their families through programs such as: Adopt A Unit, Operation Uplink, Unmet Needs, Military Assistant program and other financial support. For auxiliary members, there is the Cancer Grant program and the Emergency Aid & Disaster program.
VFW National Home For Children Support – Through service to our veterans our auxiliary made a vow to provide love, care and education to the children and grand-children of our deceased or disabled veterans.
Youth Activities – Members of the auxiliary involve youth in the Wausau area by taking youth volunteers for our projects and organizing activities with them. One of these activities is “Random Acts of Patriotism” (R.A.P.), which rewards youth that display outstanding patriotism in their everyday lives. In addition, there are awards which reward teachers or leaders that host projects that involve our youth in Veterans Day, Memorial Day, POW-MIA, and other programs.
