Each quarter has a close focus as follows: first quarter focuses on rhetorical analysis, second quarter focuses on argument, third quarter focuses on narrative and fourth quarter focuses on synthesis skills.

For the first semester, we follow a rigorous and structured schedule:

Mondays: Book Talk

Tuesdays: Rhetorical analysis with passage

Wednesdays: Multiple Choice practice

Thursdays: Global Perspective

Fridays: Perform timed write, evaluate timed write or plan timed write

If you miss class, you are expected to notify me and if you miss class, I still expect you to meet pre-arranged deadlines (this is a major difference between regular classes and pre-AP classes). For instance, each Thursday you have the opportunity to write about a global issue. If you are not in class, I still expect your assignment to be turned in. Late work will be taken at 50% for quality work. Additionally, the high school has adopted a new absenteeism policy for late work. Please consult your student handbook.
