Dear VCSSC Participant,
Greetings and warmest salutations from the Virginia Council for the Social Studies Conference (VCSS) team! We eagerly anticipate welcoming you all to Farmville next weekend for the 55th VCSS Conference hosted by Longwood University.
With the event just around the corner, we wanted to share some important information to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience. Please take a moment to review the following details:
Check-In: Conference headquarters will be located in Rotunda Hall. All conference attendees should check in at the registration desk located in the lobby, where conference staff will issue badges, programs, and conference bags (for all of your Exhibit Hall SWAG 🙂). As a reminder, same-day conference registration is not available.
Conference Badge Reminder: We kindly remind you to wear your conference badge at all times during the event. Your badge serves as your access pass and helps us maintain a secure & organized environment throughout the conference.
Code of Conduct: One of our objectives is to ensure that all attendees have a safe, respectful, and delightful experience. Before joining us at the conference, please take a few moments to review the code of conduct. Familiarizing yourself with these guidelines will help us create an environment enjoyable for all.
For those joining us on Friday prior to 5pm, parking* will be limited to Lancer Park and lots in downtown Farmville:
Lancer Park lot. To facilitate smoother access, we will provide shuttle services from Lancer Park to Rotunda Hall from 11 AM - 5:30 pm.
Parking areas in downtown Farmville. These are first-come first-serve and are not monitored by Longwood or the VCSSC Conference staff.
Anyone staying at the Hotel Weyanoke may park in the Hotel Weyanoke parking lot. It is right across the street from Rotunda Hall!
*For absolutely NO REASON can we use any lots marked “2” on the campus map. These lots are only available after 5PM on Friday & all day on Saturday and Sunday. Our diligent, volunteer conference team really, really, really needs your support with this item.
For those joining us after 5pm on Friday, please feel free to park in any of the spots marked “2” on the campus map included in this email.
Event Schedule: A detailed schedule is available in the digital program accessible on the conference website. At registration, each attendee will receive a printed copy as well. Use it to plan your conference adventure!
Plenaries: Be sure to include our lively plenary sessions on your agenda! We are thrilled to host a variety of engaging keynote speakers and panelists. We even have a film screening for you this year. All conference attendees are invited to join us at the opening plenary on Friday, March 1 at 6:00pm with the creators of The Graphic History of Hip Hop!
Social: Be sure to follow us on all the social media platforms @vasocialstudies & use the hashtag #VCSSC2024!
Blinq: The VCSSC team, in addition to exhibitors and presenters, will be utilizing Blinq digital business cards. Create two free personalized business cards that include links to social media, emails, and phone numbers. We encourage you to create a card to share information with others while at the conference.
Happy Hour: Registration for happy hour is closed. For those who registered, have your conference badge ready to show at the door of the Longwood Center for the Visual Arts on Saturday evening from 7:30-9:30 pm! Get ready for a delightful evening of networking and relaxation while unwinding with a complimentary drink and delicious hor d'oeuvres sponsored by Five Ponds Press.
We are truly excited to connect, share insights, and have some fun with our vibrant community of social studies educators and supporters. Your participation and enthusiasm contribute immensely to the success of our annual gathering, and we cannot wait to see you next weekend in Farmville for VCSSC 2024!
