For this project, I needed to create an album cover for a fictional album made up of any songs we wanted. This was created using paper, ink, and online images. Many of the songs I chose were alternative rock and focused on difficult subjects such as loss, anxiety, and fears, so I decided to try and represent it visually in a way that I could. The title “ Remember the Good” is exactly what it means: remember everything good, no matter how much bad there is out there. I wanted a more nostalgic aesthetic, which is why I used mostly warm colors and some collage elements. In the album, all the tracks I picked had some sort of negative emotion associated with them, but the last one, "Lovely Day" by Bill Withers, is a reminder of the good that can be found amidst the bad.
The colors, combined with the more chaotic designs and cut-out images of flowers, reveal a hint of the mix of positive and negative aspects seen in everyday life. The person surrounded by all of this is walking on the road of life, constantly surrounded by complex emotions and events.
An in-class project that challenged us to create a simple icon to represent us. Initially I was unsure of how to describe myself and listed down many ideas about my interests, strengths, and struggles. One aspect of myself that kept coming up was my struggle with time. I am someone who is constantly aware of time passing and am constantly running against it. This was where I came up with the idea of a person being trapped between the hour and minute hands, always afraid of letting time go by too fast but constantly being pushed forward by it. This was a 2D design created using black pieces of paper.
