After becoming more comfortable with Illustrator and Photoshop, my art teacher asked if I wanted to create the graduation banner for my graduating class of 2024. She wanted something that would be different from previous years. For this project, I had to focus on typography and organizing the elements of the design. I created this on my own time between classes over two months.
The biggest challenge I faced was being limited to the three school colors and having the text fit within my design. Being new to Illustrator was also very challenging, so there was a lot of experimentation throughout the entire process.
I came up with multiple designs, which were then sent to those overseeing the project. Many liked the flowy nature of the final design as it was different from the other two designs, as well as those from previous years.
I was asked to create a program design for my senior dinner. This involved using two different programs to create one final design. This was made during my free time, then later distributed to all seniors at the dinner.
I created an Illustration of the school mascot using Ibis Paint X, then using Illustrator for the rest of the design. My idea was to have the school mascot dressed as a butler with a graduation cap to match the dinner event for the graduating class.
My school held a small contest encouraging students to create illustrations of the school mascots. I first started with a more realistic interpretation with small details and an intense look. I based this design on other illustrations of the mascot seen on the athletic website as well as on decals placed around the weight room.
After submitting this to one of the teachers, she asked if I could give it a more “cartoony” look, almost something that would resemble Disney cartoons. I made the patriot and the eagle closer in size and overall friendlier. I still kept the patriotic feathers of the eagle to match with the patriot as well as the school colors.
