Christina Barbour, ELA Teacher
Christina Barbour is starting her second year with Virginia Virtual Academy and brings 11 years of teaching experience to her role. She spent eight years in the classroom and two years as a school librarian in her hometown of Franklin County, VA. Christina enjoys antiquing with her husband, spending time with her niece and nephew, and curling up with a good book and her cat. She's excited to bring her love of learning to the classroom again this year!
Tate Divine, ELA Teacher
Mrs. Tate Divine is so excited to be starting her first year with Virginia Virtual Academy. This will be her 7th year in education. She graduated from the College of Charleston with Bachelor's Degrees in both Early Childhood and Elementary Education. She also earned a Master's Degree from the University of Virginia in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Literacy. She currently lives outside of Charlottesville, Virginia with her husband, baby boy, and dog. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, writing, cooking, reading, and going for runs. She is looking forward to a wonderful year of learning and growth with her new students and building a strong community with the families at VAVA!
Megan Kelly, ELA Teacher
Megan Kelly attended James Madison University and graduated with a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Elementary Education. Go Dukes! This is her sixth year of teaching and second year with Virginia Virtual Academy. She was born and raised in Front Royal, Virginia, and currently lives in Inwood, West Virginia, with her husband, three amazing children ages 5 and under, and two dogs. Mrs. Kelly and her family love spending time together outside camping, swimming and going on adventures. She is excited to partner with the third graders and their families this year to have an incredible, successful school year. Go Bees!
Michelle Mackey, Math and ELA Teacher
Michelle Mackey is starting her first year with VAVA and her 10th year of teaching. She spent 7 years teaching 5th grade language arts and social studies and 2 years teaching 3rd grade (both at brick-and-mortar schools). Michelle has lived all over Virginia, from Alexandria to Mouth of Wilson and then to Front Royal. She and her family currently live near Winchester, VA, where they love hiking everywhere. Michelle's husband is also a teacher, and she has 3 children who are currently attending VAVA. She is excited to start a new year and get to know her students!
Abby Brubaker, Math Teacher
Ms. Abby Brubaker graduated from Bridgewater College in December 2017 with a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies. This is her second year with Virginia Virtual Academy, but she spent six years teaching 5th grade in a brick-and-mortar school in Franklin County, VA. She grew up in Franklin County and still lives there today with her dog, Piper. In her free time. Ms. Brubaker enjoys drinking coffee, reading, traveling, and spending time outdoors. She's excited to get to know all of her 3rd Grade students and is looking forward to a full year full of learning and growth!
Keely Baird, Math Teacher
Keely Baird attended Radford University and completed her Bachelor's Degree in 2016. This is Keely's 10th year as a classroom teacher and her 2nd year working with Virginia Virtual Academy. Keely has spent 8 of her 10 years in education teaching 3rd grade, but also has experience teaching 4th grade and 6th grade. 3rd grade is her favorite place to be! Keely grew up in Blacksburg, Virginia and still lives there with her husband and 2 boys. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, working in her garden, reading, and caring for her dogs and chickens. She is a lover of all things Virginia Tech, especially the cooler weather that comes with football season! Go Hokies! Keely cannot wait to partner with her families and have a wonderful school year!
Ashley Mohoric, Math Teacher
Ashley Mohoric is excited to be starting her first year with Virginia Virtual Academy and starting her 13th year in education. She graduated from Liberty University with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, and also earned a Master's Degree in Educational Technology and Leadership from Loyola University Maryland. She currently lives outside of Richmond, Virginia with her husband and three energetic children (ages 9,6, and 3). In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, cooking, reading, and lots of time at the ballpark. She is looking forward to a terrific year of learning and growing with her new students and families at VAVA!
Danielle Dudley, Special Education Teacher
This is Danielle Dudley's fourth year with VAVA and she is excited to be part of the third-grade team! She completed her Bachelor's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies through Liberty University Online and received her Special Education Endorsement through UVA-Wise. Mrs. Dudley is going into her 8th year of teaching. In her free time she enjoys reading, taking pictures, and exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway with her family.
Rachel Rutledge, Third Grade Counselor
This is Ms. Rutledge’s 6th year with VAVA and 7th year as a School Counselor. She has worked in both Elementary and Middle School. She completed her Bachelor’s degree from Radford University and Master’s Degree in School Counseling from Liberty University. She lives in Southwest Virginia with her son, Jameson and pup, Cora. In her free time, Ms. Rutledge loves to travel and spend time near the ocean.
