In an effort to gain an accurate picture of what each individual student can do, teachers "quick check" students throughout the school year, especially at the beginning of the school year. A quick check allows teachers to meet with students face to face virtually via a video/microphone to assess individual strengths and challenges; it is a great way for teachers to begin to design tailored instruction for live Class Connect Sessions.
Students will be taking quarterly benchmark assessments during Quarters 1-3. These assessment will be used to measure student understanding of objectives taught during each quarter. This also helps to identify gaps in learning that need to be filled to help students be successful with grade-level standards.
VALLSS
Students will be taking the Virginia Language & Literacy Screening System periodically throughout their third grade year. These assessments are taken at an in-person testing site. These will be either one-on-one or a small group with VAVA Staff. Its purpose is to identify students at risk of developing reading difficulties so that they can receive early intervention and support.
Students will be taking the Virginia Standards of Learning in May 2026 at an in-person testing site. This assessment will be used to measure student understanding of third-grade skills. Third grade students will take an SOL Test for both Math and Reading subject areas.
