Live Class Sessions

What's the purpose of Live Class Sessions with my teacher?

Live Class Sessions are held to explicitly teach the Virginia Standards of Learning through Engageli.  Live Class Sessions are a great way for teachers to engage with students in motivating ways in order to instruct students in a differentiated manner on his or her current academic level.  Live Class Sessions serve to meet the individual needs of students, show growth in each content area over time, and prove mastery of Virginia Standards of Learning.  On the first day of classes, students begin to prepare for taking the Third Grade SOL tests.  Teachers intentionally reinforce Virginia Standards of Learning with individual students in mind, assess mastery through Released SOL Test items, and prepare lessons for students with the end in mind.  Class Connect Sessions are our favorite way to connect with students personally and academically!

Requirements

Because of the important role live class sessions play in our program, sessions are required as attendance, participation through a working web camera and microphone, consistent engagement using virtual tools, individual growth and mastery will be documented and reported on Progress Reports.  While students are working towards independence, the monitoring of a Learning Coach is very important; furthermore, Learning Coaches often learn new strategies and phrases to utilize at home while going through the concepts covered in Canvas courses.  Class sessions can be counted towards attendance hours in the corresponding course in Canvas.

Expectations

"Bee Respectful"

As a third grade VAVA bee, we expect students to be respectful of others' work space on the board and encourage others' thoughts and ideas in class sessions.  After all, we are a team of learners working together!

"Bee Brave!"

We expect students to come to class sessions being ready to be brave by taking chances and trying their personal best at using strategies to arrive at the correct answer.  We want to create an environment, where everyone is safe and comfortable to try new things and grow personally!

"Bee Prepared!"

Lastly, we expect third graders to be prepared with a working microphone and web camera.  VAVA bees come ready to learn, try their best, and actively engage or participate in class sessions.
