This site is for those involved in putting together the Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 21. The public-facing site that advertises the event will be published soon. In the meantime, if you are a potential volunteer, a participant, or member of the media, this is the site to explore.
This year marks the second annual Earth Day event. Last year, somewhere around 250–300 people attended. The universal verdict: A success. This year, our organizers are the Vashon-Maury Island Land Trust, the Vashon Climate Action Group, the Vashon Nature Center, and the VHS Green Team.
To make it a better and more meaningful event, we have streamlined a few parts but also expanded and added others.
Earth-oriented groups are creating events for volunteers around Vashon Island in the days before, and morning of, Earth Day. Those who take part can roll up their sleeves and make good things happen. If you are a partner in this event, read more here.
We have found a remarkable group of presenters to bring science, art, activism, and music to the high school's theatre. The result is an afternoon that will bring joy and learning to Vashon. If you are part of this event, read more here.
Educators and volunteers from many of Vashon's schools are joining forces to create an extensive and engaging area for kids to explore in. If you are part of this event, read more here.
The Great Hall of the High School will fill up with tables and displays from activist groups and vendors of energy- and conservation-related services. An interested audience of visitors will want to make choices about their lives and connect to actions they can take on.
