Saturday, April 21, noon–4 p.m., Vashon Island High School (9600 SW 204th St.)
The high school is the central hub for afternoon activities: We will have expo of vendors of environmentally-oriented services; advocacy groups and activism; an all-ages dance party; a speaker series; and a kid-friendly space for play, exploration, and learning.
Last year about 250 people attended. This year we are expanding the activities to include volunteer opportunities throughout the week, and an all-ages dance party. The Beachcomber, the Island’s main newspaper, will publish a pull-out section detailing the event. People come to learn, to take action, to make choices about their lives, and to celebrate.
We would like you to create an earth-themed space in which kids can play and create. We will have both indoor areas and outdoor areas. Last year, we had art activities, reading areas, sensory boxes, and more. This year, we would like to see the creative power of Vashon’s early childhood educators working together to make a mini-museum of the earth.
Think of a 15’ x 15’ space. Think of your organization’s name on a big sign above that space. This is your mini-school. Find your most creative staff members, students, or volunteers to fill that space with interactivity, wonder, and a chance to play.
