Education Consortium

Mission:
Virginia’s Adapted Physical Education Consortium is to provide a venue for physical educators (current and retired), future professionals in the area of physical education/activity, professionals in academia in the area of adapted physical education/activity or related field, and other stakeholders  with direct connections to serving individuals with disabilities in physical education/activity, who display interest to: 

• Collaborate on “best practices” with colleagues throughout the state of Virginia to ensure students receive an appropriate specially designed instruction that aligns with individual education programs. 

• Advocate through research, document creation, shared voices and promotion of new policies and procedures at the local and State levels.    

• Provide professional development opportunities and resources for education, guidance, and encouragement to empower other professionals to meet the unique challenges of individuals with disabilities in the areas of health, physical education, sports, recreation, and physical activity. 

• Encourage the promotion and development of quality physical education programs for individuals with disabilities in schools and colleges throughout the state of Virginia.

• Encourage the promotion and development of quality professional development programs of adapted physical education in higher education.
